So Porsche had the 911 Dakar and Lamborghini had the Huracan Sterratto (don't remember how to spell it exactly at the moment)...

Would the equivalent for this Mustang be the Mustang Pikes Peak? (And then marketing could be like, "Well our Mustang Pikes Peak has an available Bigger Performance Package...making it THE Mustang PP with an available even bigger PP! (immature laughter immediately ensues) "

Yeah, that’s the part I don’t like either. It dilutes what the Mustang name has meant for decades.

Ford’s branding team seems to have a hard time coming up with new names.

If something sporty needs a name, just slap “Mustang” on it.

Ford marketing meeting:

“We need a name for our new model.”
“Mustang?"

“But it’s not really a Mustang.”

“Perfect. Mustang it is.”


At this rate Ford will eventually sell two things: Mustangs and F-150s

Makes you wonder.

Funny enough they trademarked the RS500 name, that makes more sense for this kinda thing. Ford has so many legendary cars it’s weird that they want to retrofit Mustang into everything.
