Replacing Sill Plates 2026 Mustangs

Like many others I was disappointed that Ford did not include lighted sill plates (even as an option) for my 2026 GT (I had them on my 2024 GT). I tried to order them through my local dealer and online. No joy. A pair were for sale on eBay but I was not interested. I called a big supplier and they conducted a search. They said the "language" they received was that the item was called "completely unavailable" which they translated as not in production by anyone, anywhere and not likely to be. While I give my local Ford dealer a few more weeks to see if they can locate some, which I doubt, I managed to get a pair of Ford Performance sill plates from CJ Pony parts. I had watched a video online of how to R&R them which I now know to be crap illustration advice. In the video I thought I saw the area where the clips went as being bent upwards after the author removed them. He did not comment on this in his video. Stupidly, I followed his instructions on the first sill plate. Removing the two clips holding the crummy oem plates is nowhere as easy as the video's author indicated. My attempt on the first sill plate was not good. The plastic oem plate came off but the clips broke away and remained in the slots on the rocker panel. I removed them with pliers which bent the slots upwards and scratched the edges of the slots (not visible) but IMO a future rust concern so I touched-up those areas with paint. The two way tape came off easily and I used a rubber mallet and piece of pine to flatten out the slots. Installation of the Ford Perfrormance sill plate was easy and looks a lot better IMO than the oem. For the second sill plate I managed to push in the two flanges on each clip that lock the clip into the slot to remove them from the slots in the rocker panels. No where near as easy as shown on videos but with patience quite doable. I will try to add a picture later to show the finished product but if you "google" Mustang Ford Performance sill plates you will see exactly what I have. BTW they are on sale right now at CJ Pony Parts for $169.00 a 24% discount. Thyey arrived, very well packaged, in two days. I am 100% happy with them.

It’s so odd that they just went with the crappy plastic plate of the base model. A simple metal plate with plastic surround would have been in line with the majority of decent cars.

I'm fine with my sill plates, they go with the Grabber Blue. I just want to know what glue they used for the protective film. It took over half an hour of using Goo Gone to get it all off.

@BrownsReds ..... coming but in the meantime - as I noted - if you google Mustang Ford Performance Sill Plates - you will see exactly what I got. Hope to drop a pic in 24 hrs or so.

Did you make the panels light up, or just replace them for better general appearance and not bother wiring them up?

I, too, am a little disappointed by the plain entry sills -- especially when compared to the look of prior model years.

@BlueWayOut ..... I had planned to get some oem lighted sill plates like I had on my 2024 GT. Neither my dealer nor I can find any. I was told they are out of production (I was told that Ford no longer has a supplier for them) and that some dealer(s) may have old stock sitting around but that's it. My dealer is still trying to get them for me but I'm not holding out a lot of hope. I contacted Ford and was told they will NOT and can not provide any code to activate illuminated sills even IF I do find some - even though there is a wiring harness connection for them in the rocker panels fo my 2026 GT. This means there are two ways to activate them IF I can get some..... 1. use third party coding like Forscan or 2. Wire them into the dome light wiring. But beware - either method will automatically void your warranry and since my 2026 is almost new (1200 miles on it) I think I would be stupid to connect illuminated sills even if Ican find them if it voids my warranty -so I found the (IMO the next best thing) Ford Performance Sills (originally meant for the 350 GT) that fit perfectly and IMO look as good as I am going to get for a replacement. As mentioned, at the moment, CJ Pony Parts is selling them for $169 - a 24% discount. I have only had then on two days but my Mustang buddies all say they are a vast improvement over the IMO really crappy plastic oem sill plates that came with my PREMIUM Mustang GT and that you have shown in your pics. I'll try to post a pic in a day or so but in the meantime if you google Ford performance Sill Plates links should pop-up and I went with CJ Pony parts.

@BlueWayOut and other forum members.....If you do decide to replace the black plastic oem sill plates that come with the 2026 GT (even 401A high package premium) be careful to note the location of the metal clips on the plastic trim and the groove on the weather stripping. If not careful it is easy to damage the clips and/or scratch the paint on rocker panels. If you carefully note the locations it will be far easier to reinstall the weatherstripping (it fits over the pinch weld) and trim (which has two metal clips that snap onto the pinch weld).
