I'm thinking about installing a Ford Performance two piece drive shaft or one piece DS. I just don't want to increase vibration or noise. I may go with a Drive Shaft one piece DS. Ford seems to favor two piece DS I believe because they don't line up correctly and cause vibration. At least that's what I read. Was wanting a carbon fiber until one shattered like a lightbulb in a drag race video. I do have a Whipple SC. I may not drag race, but you never know.

I'm changing to a one piece DS and both rear axle shafts I have a Whipple and a 6spd and plan to race on Friday nights And then the clutch and flywheel. as preventive measures.

I had my heart set for the carbon fiber until I seen the reaction of the person who shattered theirs. Not sure if I'll race. Basically it's a fun car, and a get away for to escape the bad guys. No worn out old Fox Body, or later, will catch me in it. I'm really debating the two piece Ford performance. Probably not much difference in weight that the stock.

Better than when an aluminum one breaks

they are about half the weight of stock

combine that with a light weight set of wheels and you might see 2mph in the 1/4

I bet the carbon fiber are quietest. I read the CF last about 6 or more years. Going to really have to look into this one.

Consider these from Paul's Automotive Engineering, Cincinnati, OH.

On my list of todo mods are half shafts. After a lot of research (as these shown were on my list) I decided to go with G-Force Outlaw half shafts instead. I don't remember exactly why I made that decision, but I even had a tread on this forum (no replies) asking info. Somewhere I saw these Ford ones are built by G-Force.

The whole point of the OEM 2 piece is to dampen/control NVH…

It will be worse 100%… not so much noise (unless you go aluminum) or harshness, but plan on noticeable vibration…
Maybe it shows at lower speed, maybe it’s at 90 and you have to speed up/slow down to get around it.

I’ve always had increased vibes with a 1 piece
Also on half shafts i replaced only my driver side with a gt350’axle… a little beefier that stock, passenger doesn’t have the taper issue…
Been working great on my whipple car

Ha, I have thought about this too.
Have wondered how the Dark Horse half shafts compare to the gt350 half shafts and if only replacing 1 causes some kind of noticeable imbalance while driving.

Can't speak to whether replacing one vs replacing 2 causes imbalance (because I had both replaced) but can definitely speak to the Dark Horse. If you are whippled, I recommend 100% replacing the half shafts if you are going to drag race with a drag pack. If not racing with the car, probably won't be an issue....a good sticky track will hold the tires enough on launch or gear changes to break the drivers side shaft for sure. Speaking from experience on that!

Originally they thought DH had 350 half shafts but I don’t think they do, I think they’re same as GT with the taper on the driver side.

There is no imbalance although the 350 hs is about 6lbs heavier , material wise… the passenger shafts are identical.

I saw Ford Performance 1/2s for sale, but they were under $500. The one piece were under $1000. Last night I read a guy who worked building Fords saying the reason of 1/2 shafts are alignment and harmonics etc. one piece carbon fiber are safest, but it's not like I'll be keeping a spare in the garage. Plus I hear they're made to order. So they must have a shelf life. The aluminum one piece can be extremely dangerous during a malfunction.

10r80 car, they seem to break stock axle on drag radials with good prep,
I also run bias plys to absorb shock more..
