Hey everyone. Just sold my old Mustang pushing 1k+ hp 2019 GT Premium TT.

I picked up a 2025 GT base in Grabber Blue yesterday and drove it home. My goal is to make a functional track day car while still using it to commute to and from work. I do have another car I can drive to work if needed.

But point being I need some assistance! I am not the Mustang expert you all are on a track. I can build a drag mustang but I want to set this up right.

Step 1: Rims and tires - thinking of going 19 inch here as 20s will give me far less tires to choose from and not as much sidewall for real track days. Open to suggestions!

Step 2: Suspension Mods! This is the big one. I really dont know what the best pick is here. I proably want to go ahead and go straight to coilovers as I am thinking of starting here KW Variant 3 Coilover Kit and then camber plates and arms into?? I am not a suspension expert!

Dont hesitate to throw build ideas in here. Everything is open for suggestions. The seats are coming out and all.

If you had a base GT you were doing this with hit me with your ideas! Idc about the warranty and budget is fairly open.

Nothing needed if you are new to it but you are on the right track (pun intended). Sticky tires and front camber are the first things i would do.

Steeda STH kit is a new must for me, not sure if you were running that on the last car but the rear end feels much more controlled and stable with subframe stabilized

Keep the ideas coming. I need to know which ones to be looking out for here honestly. I want to do this right from the get go and not have to replace parts! Really need the advice of someone who has done this before haha

I can for sure go the route of drag racing and learn as I go but damn that can be expensive.

Yes, for any SC application, you need to keep the power planted & some people feel a big improvement with the https://www.steeda.com/Steeda-S550-...7nb8PQqRIfXB_z-mDW40O5Gy0f80z_1xxW-wfhGoGaKTp

But with higher HP applications & more spiritied activities - the Ultimate Kit is https://www.steeda.com/steeda-mustang-ultimate-irs-stop-the-hop-package-2015-all-555-2129.html the preferred

Here to help if you want me to put you in contact with our suspension team that speacilizes in the SC department & planting that power!

Congrats on the new purchase! You'll definitely love the new s650 platform.
When I first got mine, I went ahead and went with the Steeda progressive springs. It was a nice drop and the ride was great. I went ahead and later on switched to airlift performance for the looks.

As far as wheels, you can't go wrong with velgen's 20 inch wheels. They have many designs to choose from.

Check mine out

I dont think 20s will allow me to run a more aggressive 305 square setup. Plus Ill want more sidewall from some 19s. Even 19s on 305s is going to be annoying.

I would for sure run 20s if I wanted to make that sacrifice. I may end up running like 18x11s..

Check out what Steeda did to their car with similar goals to yours.

Thanks Midwayj! Good to see they are getting some good lap times with fairly minimal work to be honest. That car is pretty much exactly what mine will be like once its complete.

Tire sizes and all. Perfect for still driving around but will eat other cars alive on the track lol

First things first. I know that this isn't cool and exciting, but the first thing is seat time.

You will see little Hondas and Mazda Miatas and even SUVs out on the track driving surprisingly quickly around the track.

There is a track forum here.

I suggest you start with this thread from that forum:
https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/threads/first-track-day-prep-and-expectations.157419/

I see you are in Georgia. Georgia has three tracks. Michelin Road Atlanta (Braselton), Atlanta Motorsports Park (Dawsonville), and Roebling (near Savannah). Groups that go to these tracks also go to Barber Motorsports Park over in Alabama.

Here is Just Track It's 2026 season here in Georgia:

https://justtrackit.net/events/

My suggestion would be to go as your first expenditure. Get a helmet. Register, and just track it.

Also, paging fellow Georgian @krisk who regularly tracks his S650 Mustang and has made several modifications.

Hey Junkyard! I do track days fairly often! I just have been racing with a team for the past 4 years. The team I race with does not do any domestics and the main car we run is a 911 with a setup this Mustang will never even come close to touching. I will still be racing with them so that is why I am not going even more extreme with this thing. That is why I came to the Mustang forums. I pretty much have a build list though at this point.

I just have very little common sense so I want my daily driver to be able to drive from work to the track and still be able to enjoy it. I also enjoy the looks of the track weapon, but I am also not someone who can just out lipstick on something and make it "look" like a track car. My last daily driver had over 1k horsepower and at least 40k in supporting mods if you include the new engine from RPG. I could drive to work and then hit the drag strip on the way home and smoke 95% of the cars there. Hell I would beat a lot of the dedicated drag cars running power glides and I was running the 10R80, but it had been built out also.

So yea I will end up spending god only knows how much on a car that sees the track maybe 2-4 time a year as I will be in other cars most of the time. I did think about taking it once stock just to see what kind of times it puts down before I drop it off at Steeda here pretty soon. But tracking a base Mustang would be a little underkill for me. Hard to come out of a 911 Cup car into a base GT and feel the same thrill lol.

Not to say it would not be fun at all. You can have fun with any car on the track! I also do a lot of karting. L206 through Shifters lol

Ill post pictures of the before and after and hopefully some track lap times in January/Feb.

LOL, ok, got it. You may be far beyond what anybody here on this site can do to help you.

BUT

Go take a look at TrackMustangsOnline.com

Nothing but track mustangs there.

I would love to follow along with any build thread you post here, though.

Post up a pic of your new car as it sits now so we can get a look before any changes are made.

Ill try to grab a stock picture of it tomorrow lol. I know I am going to get slammed in here but I do not love the look at the stock Mustang. BUT that is not fair to the Mustang as I am not a fan of 90% of stock cars tbh.

I seriously bought the car because I know the Coyote platform is a monster. Love it. And I knew I could do enough to make it a good track toy and still drive it to work for around $70-80k (fiancé has to go to the office now and she is taking my SUV). I looked at other cars in that price range and Jesus Christ are car prices stupid. I am not paying $60k+ for a used M2 lol.... 60k for Supras that will need work to also be quick, and sadly the 1LE Camaro is gone.... leaving the Vette and its too flashy for what I want. I cannot pull up at my clients office in it without looking kind of tacky imo.

Now a Mustang that has been tastefully modded... nobody will even blink a eye. Everyone knows I go through cars frequently and love them.

What do you intend to do to the engine to use it on the track?

The Coyote easy button of bolting on 875 horsepower and ripping down the drag strip before stopping off for groceries on the way home will not work for a 30 minute track session.
