Dude you can make all the excuses you want. It’s gone from bad to worse and as of right now prime performance car selling season is over. The first drop in sales is after July 4 and after Labor Day it’s over.
The Mustang took an “L” last year and is going to take a bigger “L” this year watch. The season is over.
Well yes it will sell less, because they can't sell any mustangs now because of a recall. A fix isn't coming until 2026.

It was on its way to selling more. The past five months exceeded the sales from the same period in 2024. If it kept exceeding 2024 sales for a couple more months like it has been its previous five months, then yes it would have sold more. No way to know now.

The drift bros aren’t buying the Mustang? 😂 And even without recalls, the S650 is selling poorly. I mean, last year was the worse selling year in the history of Mustang.

The exterior design is mediocre, the interior is an S550 with screens tacked on. It needs a new platform, and brand new design. I doubt Ford can pull it off under Jim Farley.

All I care about is I like my Mustang, it works well, I manage my money well and price isn't it. Consumer debt is it. If that weren't the case, people wouldn't be griping, whining, and crying about the price on this forum. ALL cars are expensive right now and they aren't going to get less costly.

People that complain that they can't have what they want because of price don't have the money to buy the toys they want. Same as children that are told "no, you can't have that" by their Mom. LOL!

They'll just make another 300k+ variant and keep chasing Corvettes. New platform is also funny as they can't handle the recalls they have now much less something new.

Amen. Never seen a company with more recalls. My son is a Ford tech at a dealership and laughs, and laughs, and laughs.

at this point.. are all the mustangs on a STOP SALE or just certain vin/build dates?
I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's pretty much all of them.

That's why it's so weird seeing some negative comments. For over a quarter of August all mustangs were on a stop sale, and it still beat last August lol

The mustang’s poor sales are simply a reflection of its “buyer profile”

the guy/gal doesn’t exist in big numbers anymore… the average 25-44yo that would have bought a mustang in years past has changed too dramatically.

everything from hobbies, to disposable income to lack of enthusiasm… IT’S OVER.

I don't think the sedan would outsell the coupe. It'd barely sell.
The reason the Mustang sold a million cars its first 2 years is Lee Iacocca was smart enough to know who the primary buyers would be and what kind of car would get them excited.

The difference today, regardless of marketing intellect or foresight, is that the same demographic can't afford brand new cars with the way inflation has outpaced wage growth. It's now more about just what people can afford rather than what gets them excited. Also, there are A LOT more competitors on the market now.

Home runs like that simply aren't possible anymore, so I hope they isn't what Ford is out there spending money trying to chase.

I would expect USED four-doors with turbo-4 engines to sell a lot because they'd be affordable and get good gas mileage, which are priorities for the youngest generation (not most of us), but most of us probably wouldn't ever buy one of those brand new, so they'd never even enter that market for the youngest generation.

Ford could try entering the ring with the best selling cars like the RAV4 and CR-V, but it's probably too late to catch up.

Ford can pay marketing people hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep trying new ideas, but the reality is that the economy and what other car manufacturers have already done are out of their control.

My out-of-the-box suggestion would be to make sure every car rental company in the country has at least one ecoboost mustang to put their customers in. I think a lot more people would buy mustangs if they actually experienced driving or riding in one, and that would be one way to make that happen.

A lot of people might not know that the combination of reliable, good gas mileage, AND sporty even exists. Sure there are the civics, integras, and supra types, but everyone knows those are boy-cars.

Particularly used cars, which actually makes new cars a relatively better value. The most interesting bit in my lifetime has been the shift from men buying pony/sports/muscle cars to gigantic trucks.

*Get off my lawn moment* Trucks used to be about utility and were not the status symbols, luxury items they've become. Between the rise of trucks and SUVs, that's the losses on coupes and sedans.

BTW there's a lowered late 90s woody roadmaster on nitrous thrust wheels here in town. Never thought that'd be my deal, but it looks awesome.

99% of trucks have nothing in their beds and never see the "off road", so I don't get it. In the rare occasion that I need a truck about once every 10 years I'll just rent one from Lowe's for $30 a day.

My local Ford dealer said they have more people ordering superchargers for trucks with coyotes than mustangs.

Trucks are killing young people too. They mortgage all the assets they and go into massive debt have to buy a $70 to $80k 4wd truck, lift it, buy $4K wheels and tires for it, throw mods at it, and live in a shack with a fat girlfriend or with their parents. It's a contest with young people. As someone else said, it's a demographic issue as well as non-familiarity with the fun a muscle car can bring. On that, it disgusts me to now and then see a high schoolish kid throw paint and mods at a used ratty mustang. That hurts all of us as far as image goes.

Ford doesn't market Mustangs any more for some reason but they darn sure market F150's, Explorers, and the cheaper end of their line for CAFE purposes. I still stick to my premise that people are in WAY too much debt because of we know who.....
