Low Coolant = cause for concern?

I have had my 24 GT since April and it has around 5600 miles on it now. From day (1) my coolant level has been sitting at the minimum level as indicated on the reservoir tank. Just today I noticed that it is now below the minimum level so that had to have happened fairly recently as I have keep a close eye on it. I've never smelled the sweet smell of coolant or noticed anything on the ground or any strange smoke form the exhaust.

The weather has turned colder here in Michigan (in the 30's today) and I haven't driven the car but a few times in the last two weeks. The car is always in the garage as well but I'm not sure that it really matters? I do plan to start driving it again here (weather permitting) so maybe the coolant level will magically rise back to the min level? I'm not sure if the cold weather can cause this issue of low coolant or not? I really hope there isn't something wrong but just looking for advice from the thread.

that should've been topped off during PDI. top off the coolant and check on it later on. if you find its low again after a while, get in contact with your dealer to schedule some service

@ListedGuru ..... sometimes the systems burp a little air from either the main cooling system or the auxiliary cabin heater lines and you have this result. As @Rocket said - top it off when cool to the proper mark and keep an eye on it. I bet you're fine. Do run your cabin heater if you haven't yet, to get any air that might be in those lines from the factory install.

Thanks for the reply. Looking back at my posts I had asked about coolant type when I first noticed it was at the min level from day one but never bought any coolant as it stayed at that min level until recently. It looks like @SAL-E said to only use the Yellow Motorcraft coolant and not the gold. I will have to see how much it is at the dealer for a gallon. Just making sure I do indeed use the Yellow and not the Gold coolant. On O'reilly's website when I put in my 2024 Mustang GT it says that neither the Yellow or the Gold "fit' my 2024 Mustang, lol?

It is a liquid so you can expect a change in the level due to the lower outside temps.

If you suspect a leak have the system pressure checked when engine and coolant is stone cold.

Just wanted to bump my thread as I had my first old change done at the dealership (Quicklane) yesterday @5600 miles. The oil still looked good at that point and my low coolant level was consistent with the picture I posted earlier in the thread. So it looks like the low coolant level at least stabilized at the level in my photo. Yesterday I had them switch to full synthetic Motorcraft oil and I mentioned my coolant level was a little low and they said they would add some. I assume the engine was somewhat warm when they added to coolant as I waited for the oil change and watched them drive my car into the bay after around 20 minutes of it sitting or so. After I drove home (10 min drive) I checked the coolant level in the tank and it was about half way between the min and max level which is where the guy at the oil change place said they would fill it. For some reason I forgot to take a picture but I was happy that it was back where it should be anyway.

After dinner I drove it around 15 minutes or so to the store (probably 6 miles on the freeway) and then drove it back home. Today I decided to check the oil and the coolant level after it say overnight. The oil level was fine (paperwork says they put in 10 quarts) but my coolant level is back below the min level after being about halfway between the min/max levels just yesterday.

Not sure if this is normal or not? When I looked at the coolant level when I got home yesterday after the oil change the engine would've been warm whereas today I checked it after it sat overnight in my garage (it's cold here in the 30's today). Everything looks fine with the oil and I've never seen or smelled any evidence of the coolant disappearing anywhere so not sure what to think? Maybe this is normal for it to dip that much going from being all warmed up to sitting overnight and being cold? I guess for now I'll keep an eye on it and go from there. I know others have had issues with low coolant that turned out to be something that had to be replaced but hopefully that's not where this is heading.

Keep an eye on it and run your cabin heater for a while to circulate the coolant and get any air out if there is still any in the lines. Like that you are using full synthetic that is smart. Just keep an eye on the level as you are doing.

Well I will keep an eye on it for sure. I did have the heat going yesterday evening on the drive to the store and back so there's that, lol. I guess the thing that really bother's me is that the coolant level dropped that much in one day after they filled it up.

what's the ambient temp outside? Cold causes fluids to become more dense and that's an overflow tank. May still be air burping out of the system.

The ambient temp outside here has been in the 30's the last few days. Hopefully the issues I'm experiencing are indeed temperature and or weather related but I'll be keeping a close eye on things that's for sure.

Happend to me. I don’t entirely remember honestly what it was at when I first got the car, but I noticed during operating temperature my coolant was at the minimum, which is too low. When it was cold, I was about an inch or so below min. I added some when cold to between min and max. I’m sure it’s normal due to the freezing temperatures I’m also experiencing, plus, from factory there can still be air in the lines that work their way out over time.

I took delivery of my s650 at the start of Feb 2024 and periodically checked fluid levels through the first several thousand miles of ownership. I was primarily watching oil level and saw no noticeable oil consumption but also peeked at everything else while I had the hood up. This was the second winter I’ve owned this car and it had approx 15k miles when I noticed the coolant level below minimum mark. I saw no signs of a loose hose or other drip loss. After a day of testing at the dealership, including an extended period of time pressurized testing of the system, nothing was found and the dealer topped off the fluid. Any system burping shouldn’t have taken 15k mi to happen and if it was solely due to ambient temp change, it should have shown similar during its first winter. Just like the other issues I’ve had, including the steering assist fault, I’m just keeping an eye on things for now.

I wonder why your fluid looks green whereas my fluid looks more yellow? My fluid has been that yellow color since day (1) and it was the same color after the dealership topped off my coolant level as well. Keeping an eye on my level to see if maybe it comes back up now that it's starting to warm up here.

The owners manual sez, 1qt coolant loss a month is Normal..

--If you have to add more than 1.1 qt (1 L) of engine coolant per month, have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.--

I don't agree loosing 1qt a month is acceptable either, there's leak IMVHO.

I've got 20K miles on mine and the coolant level was right on the min line when I bought it and has dropped about 1 finger width below the minimum level line over the past year,

I have gotten a whiff of coolant occasionally but haven't seen any signs of a leak, with that small of a loss it'll be hard to find a leak, it's most likely evaporation from the reservoir.
