I was trying to install the oil/air separator from ford performance and the 8mm socket flew off the wrench...It was dropped as seen in the picture. I tried to find it it but nothing...Any ideas on where it might have stuck?

Any potential dangers?

I can't think of any damage it would cause being lost in that location. Maybe a hot spot, if resting against part of the engine or exhaust.

Might have been caught by the belly pan and eventually come out. Could be resting against something, never to be seen again.

Jacking the car up when cold, you might be able to feel around from underneath. Or see it.

You are not alone. The ease of losing things was the first lessen I learned. You'll have seen a gap to drop things into the fender area. I lost my first tool there. A grabber saved me from having to removing the wheel liner to retrieve it. Now, when working on the car, I always use a fender cover and shield that void.

As to dropping things in the engine bay, done that to. Dropping battery cover fasteners in the engine bay is a popular pastime. I've lost two, never to be seen again.

What Rob and Fran said!

I've got magnetic and mechanical grabs---I'm embarrassed to say how often I've had to use them over the years!

You could try dropping the under trays (if you're up for the hassle of doing so) off your Mustang to see if the socket is riding on top of one of them

I lift the car with rhino ramps, removed all the plastic covers and started searching with my fingers.
I knew you would not give up until you found it. 😄

if the part is made of steel, a magnet will find it. Yes, it'll rattle out and fall out eventually.
