Could be any shape if it's all electric. Doesn't have to conform to a front engine, rear or mid engine look.

Theyā€™d be wise to retain the FE/RWD proportions to a degree. The Charger Daytona EV concept honestly nailed it by maintaining familiarity, introducing modern elements, and utilizing the blank canvas of an EV by adding functional aero where an engine would typically sit.

Hereā€™s realistically whatā€™s going to happen with the next Mustang, assuming they go to a full BEV platform and not HEV:

-exaggerated, integrated running lights; either an extremely wide or vertical interpretation of the front and rear tri-bars. I wouldnā€™t be surprised to see a large scale, 3D version of something like the 13-14 S197 out back. I would also not be surprised to see dynamic matrix-LED technology, as the US just recently updated legislation thatā€™s been outdated for over 40 years making that stuff illegal (google search ā€œmatrix LEDs Audi/BMW/Mercedesā€ and view anything German thatā€™s been available for ~10 years now, eg light show, dynamic high beam partitions, etc), like less than a year ago. Hell, we might get something like than for an S650 facelift

-an increased cabin size, probably full-on rear passenger space for actual human adults; thereā€™s very little to gain from small form factor in the performance EV space. Weight will shoot up dramatically strictly due to the batteries, and competitors will no doubt have a ton of practicality on hand. The moment the Mustang goes full EV, it will face a larger pool of cross-shopped competitors

-IF they maintain the long hoodā€”there would have to be some kind of marketable, ā€œMustang Lifestyleā€-oriented gimmick in the frunk space to rationalize eating up cabin space. Either a combination of aero, or some kind of pro-active-lifestyle powered frunk. Something that would promote tailgatingā€¦ or frontgating idk

-a sleek body that follows minimalistEV trends: flush door handles, no exhaust pipes

-a return to the dual brow design with integrated screens for driver and passenger

They already have an EV mustang. The v8 mustang is separate and will not conform to any of what you said before, as obvious by the fact that an Electric mustang exists............
