Is it me, or is Ford trying to be a Bigger Big Brother?

I drive in Sports Mode most of the time, as it seems to be the best mode for stop&go driving. I have the traction control turned off in the setup for Sports Mode, however, you have actually turn it off via the Skid-icon. If memory serves, you used to be able to turn off the Stability Control with that Icon, and the Traction via the settings. Has my memory gotten as bad as Ford's?
