Back in way back we used to use those hide-a-key boxes for just these occasions.

That's a stupid Ford program. So if you didn't have your phone on you, you'd be stuck watching your car running with no way to get in it?!?

It's a weird scenario though. He remote started his car (which locks the doors), then opened his trunk and put his key in without opening the doors and pressing start first.

I could see me doing that after work actually. Good to know.

I can’t test as I have a stick but I know my car if engine is running and I get out the car with keys it honks, it I try to lock car with keys in cabin, on vert top, or in truck in honks and won’t lock. My wife’s expedition won’t lock or even shut trunk hatch if keys are in the car period. Real pain in the butt because hatch stops 1/2 down. Only way to shut the hatch with keys inside the truck is to use the button on dash.
