Back in way back we used to use those hide-a-key boxes for just these occasions.
I have bought foxbodies with these little sliding hide a key, rusted and barely holding the key

It's a weird scenario though. He remote started his car (which locks the doors), then opened his trunk and put his key in without opening the doors and pressing start first.That's a stupid Ford program. So if you didn't have your phone on you, you'd be stuck watching your car running with no way to get in it?!?
