How does the car calculate MPG?

There’s some calculations based on your driving habits.

Cane the Mustang:
DTE will be low

Drive like you’re on island time:
DTE will be HUGE.

When I was in the Outer Banks in the Raptor, DTE showed 620 miles ! That’s Austin to El Paso on one tank of gas !!!

OTOH, when things get a little... more aggressive, I’ve seen a 390 mile DTE in the Rap (with it’s 36 gallon gas tank)

Mustang is still new but honestly, I don’t pay much mind to it because I don’t really care. I am not driving the Mustang to hypermile.

It a rough estimate based on your speed, most recent 30 minutes of driving, and previous driving habits. It's fairly accurate for highway driving, but it's still just a guess.

Yeah, MPG is just your immediate drive. If you're going a couple miles down an empty road, it'll be 30+ mpg - right up until you get stuck in traffic. If I was only doing highway driving, I'd get a GT in a heartbeat. Ecoboost can do 24+ mpg in city traffic, and 45+ mpg on a backroad.

It has been displaying 19mpg for about 900 miles or 3 fills. The DIC says 265 on a 16 gallon tank.

Say what you want but that math is not so good.

Yeah it all depends on how you drive and highway vs city.
I took mine on a 5 hr drive up to my parents. Filled it before leaving and it was projecting me to be about 50 miles short. By the time I got there the gauge was saying I had 100 miles left in the tank my ecoboost hit 30 mpg and I was doing 70-75 the whole way.
