Hood Adjustment Knobs

In a follow up question regarding the hood alignment knobs, is there a factory default setting as to how far they are turned into the hood or are they just made to be customed turned to however the hood lines up with the front fascia? Another words, off the assembly line, are they turned all the way in against the hood or all the way out or somewhere in between?

In a perfect world, they would be adjusted at final QC. We do not live in that world.

There is no "specified" position for those... so, somewhere in between... they are used solely to get the hood lines right, and one side could be different that the other.

When I first exceeded 70 mph, my hood would vibrate, like in a wind tunnel. After adjusting the rubber bumpers at the front of the hood, it went away. From a different perspective, other than hood alignment.

Yes, that is another function of getting the hood fit right... basically the hood needs proper support from those to keep it lined up to the body and not flutter in the breeze...

Just sharing my experience:

My hood came completely lower than the front bumper from the factory when I picked up the car in July. I tried everything with the rubber stoppers to raise the hood a bit, but it didn't work. So, I moved on to adjusting the hood latch. I got it adjusted, but during the final tightening, I unfortunately broke one of the bolts. There are two bolts holding it to the radiator support, and to avoid having to replace the entire radiator support and take apart the whole front end, I had to drill a new hole in the support and install a new M6 bolt, nut, and lock washer. It came out perfect and solved the problem.

Lesson learned: if you're adjusting the hood latch, don't over-tighten the mounting bolts.

Ford really needs to pay more attention to Mustang hood alignment and quality control.

Thank you that explanation and the photos. It's very helpful. I agree about Ford needing to do a better job of quality control. But honestly I've had Corvettes and they're not much better. If you watch a YouTube video on how cars are assembled on an assembly line, I'm surprised they don't completely fall apart by the time they get to the end. Anyway, I think I won't touch the latch because my luck, I'll do even worse damage then you. If I have to live with a little misaligned hood, so be it. Thanks again!

For sure, I totally agree. In my case, the misalignment was really bothering me because of the hood and bumper race stripes, besides the gap with the bumper, the stripe lines were also a bit out of alignment. But honestly, after unfortunately breaking the bolt and all the hard work it took to adjust it, I thought the same as you: it would have been better just to leave it factory misaligned. Thanks for sharing the experience as well!

For sure, I totally agree. In my case, the misalignment was really bothering me because of the hood and bumper race stripes, besides the gap with the bumper, the stripe lines were also a bit out of alignment. But honestly, after unfortunately breaking the bolt and all the hard work it took to adjust it, I thought the same as you: it would have been better just to leave it factory misaligned.
