Ford owns the Cobra name and badging. They have since the 1960's. Shelby America owns the trademarks for GT350 and GT500, they license those to Ford. That agreement has ended. Ford cannot build a new GT350/500 without a new agreement with SA. They can, however, build a Cobra.
I've been saying for years Ford needs to bring the cobra back, either as its own bespoke model, or as a option for the s650. It makes perfect sense if Ford wants go to war with the c8.

With electric motors and AWD, what would the front/rear weight bias be? Something north of 60/40? Also, packaging, could all that fit? Maybe that’s why the C8 had the big move to mid/rear engine. Could Ford use a rear transaxle for weight bias (GTD for the masses)? Is that the reason for the heavy camo in the rear of the test mule? From some of the pics I’ve seen, I don’t see front axles peeking through the center capless wheels. Even the thought of a Godzilla/Megazilla scares me a bit with its weight bias (like the old Boss 429). I can’t wait to find out. I’m nearing retirement and planning on building a GT40 with my son (or a Godzilla/Megazilla Mustang), but something really big with a manual (and without any electric motors) may entice me to change direction and put me back in the buy it, not build it category.
