I don't like how it looks when the tow hook is installed, with the huge gaping hole, so I did this.

The OP is not installing a tow hook - He's installing a license plate holder.

Try pushing around the 5 o'clock position. You may have to then snag the opposite corner with a finger nail etc and it'll come right off.

I ordered the same license plate relocator as @exm.

$39 on eBay... A heck of a lot cheaper than the Perin Performance kit that I used on my STI.

Sadly, Subaru uses a fine thread pattern and the Dark Horse is coarse Left-Handed thread.

I used a tiny tiny flathead screwdriver with a real thick t-shirt. You want to go at it from the top. Comes right out. There's a little plastic anchor at the 9:00 position that holds the cover to the body. Just be gentle, barely requires any force and comes right out. My relocator will be here in 2 days. I have my receipt from eBay and the printed temporary plate from the dealer in my trunk. Here in California you'll get a $105 ticket lickety split if you don't have a front license plate.
