Hell yes, added my VIN to the Ford Pass app.

When it has doors, will I get notifications of it opening and closing in Michigan? 🤣

Would love feedback on the app. It says you give Ford permission to use all your personal and car data, and to sell it to others. Am I missing something there? Seems like no one would want to use the app with such an invasion of privacy, no? Does anyone have a better understanding of this?

No, I've not had any issues with the Ford Pass App.

If you'd like to study Ford, the car and privacy in-depth, read up on Ford and Telematics. All late model Ford vehicles give feedback to Ford. While Telematics cannot be removed or deleted from the car, it can be disabled.

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/the-how-to-disable-the-data-link-to-ford-thread.146863/

On signing day, the supporting dealer asked I install the Pass App. I did. The App works OK. No issues. No bugginess.

The Pass App allows you to remotely lock and unlock the car, locate it, check Oil Life, Tire Pressure, warranties, recalls, etc.

The Pass App allows you to upload service data yourself. I've uploaded an oil change, air filter replacement, soon, a tire rotation. The Extended Warranty from Granger is in there. If Ford services the car, those will show up.

Coming up on one year since installing the app and I have not had any issues. I'm not getting calls from anyone, including Ford. No spam emails or texts from outsiders. My phone has never asked or made me aware of sending data to someone else. If I don't use the app in some time, it auto-disables until I access the app again.

I do get general emails from Ford and CarFax.

Ford occasionally sends me offers of points and credit cards. But also sends me discount codes on new vehicles, service advertisements, etc.

The Ford dealer will occasionally send me physical mail. Once in a while. Not often enough to be a PITA.

CarFax was sending me emails telling me that, since they were not aware my oil had been changed, the engine was going to fall apart at any moment. Since I've created a CarFax account and uploaded my own data, CarFax emails have stopped. In the beginning, I suppose I could have simply unsubscribed from those emails.

I gave the Pass App time to see if what I was doing would impact CarFax. It did not. Maybe if I got something done at a Ford dealer it'd show up. There does appear to be a service history link between Ford and CarFax. Dealer-to-CarFax. There does not appear to be a personal cell-to-CarFax link. The phone and Ford talk when I'm using the app, in what appears to be car information only.

I finally accessed CarFax and setup an account there. CarFax had Sales and DMV information loaded. Nothing else. So I uploaded my service data, same records I was upping to the Pass App. Not concerned. When the day comes to sell the car, I'm going to want all the service history in CarFax anyway, to help facilitate a sale.

If the app is loaded, it could always be disabled when no in use, or deleted. But I've not seen anything "weird" to include data transfers I consider odd or unaccounted for.

Not to derail the thread, but...

- https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action This is a government web site while will allow you to view your credit history. Not your score, but account/card/mortgage, etc. The site will help you review for accuracy

- Devices of all kinds come with wireless interfaces, on by default, with zero security. Take time and review all your electronics, no matter how insignificant, to include all home appliances

- Anything voice enabled, anything capable of listening to you or become aware of your voice, should be disabled

- Computers can be complicated. Make sure all computers and electronics are patched and updated well. Anti-virus if you feel the need

- If your not using a particular interface (bluetooth for example), disable that interface

- Don't link accounts. "Google is great. I can sign on to anything, anywhere." Don't do that. Use google, but create specific accounts for those other apps and services

- Different passwords for everything. Keep the passwords in an encrypted password vault

- Backup, backup and backup again

- I'm not a big fan of cloud storage. I know how well I'm running my stuff. IDK about anyone else

- Simply your life. Some people have more electronics in their house than Best Buy; it's one huge attack vector

- Check your car. Wireless was on by default in Skye; it was disabled the day I picked her up

- Buy a Faraday pouch for your car FOBs, to ensure your keys cannot be cloned or the car jacked by a relay attack

What I want to know when the Mustang has all its components will it show up on the app and give. Its location. My Ford dealer showed me that. They can track any of their cars that is in transit. He showed me one vehicle that was on rail and you could see it moving and the location. Maybe you will be able to do that with yours.

That's an interesting idea. I mean, I'd be game. But I don't think you can do it. The car hasn't been sold or associated with the future owner yet. I'd think Ford would link the car and phone/person after the sale? Otherwise, thieves could be using the app, searching and lurking for specific vehicles to boost. @Ford Motor Company ?

@Workhorse996

So...taking one of the 7G window stickers at random, I loaded the VIN in my app. Ford took it and acknowledged it as a valid VIN. I got that far. But because the car is not complete, it has no connectivity. I then removed the car from the app.

It'll be interesting to see who can track what, once the cars are built and powered up. And again, the car is not sold and associated with anyone yet, so I don't want to get ahead of myself. I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack. If it's this easy to track vehicles of interest to steal, someone would already be doing it.

Loving this! Those who have cars already built can you track it's location yet? Also, can you set any limits on how the car is driven just by using this app? (Such as teen driving restrictions, etc)

Thank you @Skye! That's great detail. What Bikeman315 posted (I think) is the agreement from the app that says exactly what I raised a concern about. If Ford doesn't use the data in the way they require us to agree, but require agreement for purposes that are legitimately in our interests, then I'd be fine with it. Lots of legalese is written that way. But if Ford wants us to sign away our driving data and personal data to anyone they can make a buck from, that should scare everyone. It is discoverable and could be used in ways most people never imagined. I'd like to assume the former and trust Ford. Your experience, Skye, certainly seems to align.

I have had the app since 2021 when I took delivery of my bronco. I like the app and it has a lot of features that @Skye went over. Another thing I like is when the bronco was getting wrapped for ~10 days or when I'm out of town, I can check to see where the vehicle is at and what the odometer reads.

I am still alive after ~2 years of using the app and the digital ads I now receive have never been so relevant and meaningful to my life

Unquestionably the baseline for giving up all privacy. 😂 That's what they promise, and I'm sure they deliver too. Appreciate the sense of humor. And appreciate the vote of confidence. I agree it would be great to know where my car is at all times. Listening to you guys, I'm probably going to take the dive.

Based on this, first mod will be de-activating the power to the cell modem in my car. For sure.

What I want to know when the Mustang has all its components will it show up on the app and give. Its location. My Ford dealer showed me that. They can track any of their cars that is in transit. He showed me one vehicle that was on rail and you could see it moving and the location. Maybe you will be able to do that with yours.
Thier tracking is different from the app. It’s more of a form that gets updated as it goes through the different stages of production and doesn’t quite say location to a T. I attatched what mine looked like as my GT went through the process.

Definitely not, nothing is stopping you from sharing the account though.
Spouses usually have their own phones ….
