Google says 685 horsepower to the flywheel to hit 124 mph.

503 advertised is a big difference. That's not even advertising the wheel horsepower (584).

That's a nice car at a better than expected price. EDIT, well, not the as tested price.

Launch control, something I wish the Mustang had. AWD, another great advantage. No wonder it has a 1 second 0-30 and a 2.8 0-60.

As the article notes, these traction advantages make up 0.7 seconds in the quarter mile over the rear wheel drive model even with 150 pounds added.

And it is 523 horsepower, so I do not even know if this is the car you are mentioning.

It does have 61 lb ft of torque advantage over the Dark Horse in addition to the horsepower and weight advantages. This is why it does not come with a manual transmission. The torque would break the tranny, so they would have to tune the torque limits way down.

It's not the tranny that's weak, but the clutch. Folks with manual G87s are running 600+HP with no issues with upgraded clutch.

I think everybody is talking about different cars because his earlier post did not say which car, and I added to the confusion by guessing and posting about a different car, and you may have been posting about yet another car, and others posting about . . .

I read an article about a week ago where the top M guy was talking about how they don’t want to reengineer a new manual transmission to handle the power increases because they just aren’t selling enough manuals.
If it’s just a clutch why doesn’t BMW just install a beefier clutch instead of leaving behind manuals to have less power increases the same model? Seems like that hurts sales more for such a simple solution

Well there are a lot of folks running 600-700rwhp in their manual G8X cars (they all use the same manual) and did it with just a clutch upgrade. The issue is the clutch upgrade isn't as streetable as the OEM clutch. BMW rates the manual at 443ft/lbs of torque the current car makes 406 yet a bunch of guys are running quite a bit more that that. If you are running slicks and are pushing quite a bit more than that you could run into issues. Its not as strong as the ZF 8spd but it can handle quite a bit more than the factory is giving it with a clutch.

You know what is amazing in the US the take rate for the manual G87 is almost 50%....

He was talking about the CS that is 2wd. The G87 with X drive will be a 2027 model which you can build now.

LOL!!! Yea the thread kind of went to a different realm. That is part of the problem with forums...they take their own direction.

Not really, but most believe that they underrate their horsepower figures. Whether that is true, I do not know, but nobody is going to sue BMW for fraud if they discover the car has more horsepower than advertised.

I heard that BMW want to make sure their cars meet claimed figures even in adverse conditions. High temps, altitude (to a point) etc.

Probably because 500hp BMW's have been tested in the 1/4 mile and they are significantly faster than the DH

503-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. the quarter-mile passes in 11.0 seconds at 124 mph

When you stick them on the dyno though, you can see the BMW is underrated

Plus turbo torque curve, 4wd with launch/ It's why a 330hp hot hatch can match or beat a DH or Gt to 60.

we’re talking DHSC money, that’s the comp, not a 50-60k GT/DH
