DISCLAIMER: I am using the Mach 4 as a placeholder name because that is one of the names Ford has used/trademarked in referencing this subject. I would prefer they find a non-mustang name as well. That said, the uses of Mach 4 and Mustang derivative are there to focus on it being a specific type of vehicle (big engine capable RWD or potentially AWD vehicle vs a 'generic sedan"

Hey all, I know not much new information/rumors have been out there for the past year on the "Mach 4). However Ford has made some sporadic comments about a future sedan derived from the current (or possible future) Mustang. With the additional pressure of the probable Buick sedan and the Chevrolet vehicles being built on the Alpha-2 platform potentially coming out as a 2028 model, how will Ford respond?

Will they move up their plans and make an announcement once the excitement/newness of the GM announcement dies down? Will Ford adopt a "wait and see how the market shakes out" when it comes to the performance sedan? Will it quietly cancel the new sedan as they don't see any room for the Mach 4 in what is now getting to be a fairly crowded market?

Personally, I think they should make the Mach 4. The sedan market, while smaller than the SUV market, is still a lot bigger than the coupe market. Having a derivative vehicle that uses the mustang platform will allow for continued production of the traditional Mustang Fastback and Convertible. It would also capture the hearts and minds of many of the performance geeks out there who would not buy a traditional Mustang.

Has anyone heard anything, or are we still waiting on Ford to make a decision/announcement?

There’s pretty decent sized thread on this topic already, but I’m too lazy to link it haha. Search for Mach 4 and it should pop up

Yep, but that thread is about a year old since the last post on it, which is why I asked here. I didn't want to necro that one, plus the whole "Camaro announcement" does change things.

Still waiting. Still want it to happen. But these days I'm skeptical whenever Farley has something to say about non-SUVs/trucks.

In a recent interview with Vaughn they went over the idea of a “off road” Mustang (which was strange because wasn’t that shown at the dealer meeting?)

and Vaughn said he (RTR) has an idea for it or something like that. If that’s the case I wonder if some of those things are scrapped or reworked.

Ford Exec Says Carmaker Looking to 'Expand' Mustang Family, Hints at Possible Future Sedan

June 3, 2026

https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a71482968/ford-exec-hints-expand-mustang-family-sedan/

Automotive News recently sat down with Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, to have a chat about what’s coming down the pipeline. Sure enough, he had plenty to say when queried about Ford bringing sedans back into the lineup, and a lot of it involved bringing up the Mustang apparently unprompted.

“There is a percentage of the customer base that still buys sedans,” Frick said. “It’s a lot smaller than it once was. It used to be 50 percent, now it’s 16, 17 percent. We have a really great Mustang that people consider a car. We look to expand on the Mustang family as we move forward.”

The Mustang Mach-E has lived a weird life so far. It was met with plenty of ire at launch, but quickly surpassed the regular gas-powered Mustang coupe and convertible in sales. That’s no big surprise considering an electric SUV has a much wider appeal than a performance-focused coupe and convertible. However, it’s also proof that expanding the Mustang brand works beyond the convention.

This isn't the first time news has flown around the idea that the Blue Oval might further grow the 'Stang lineup. Ford reportedly teased two different new Mustang models to dealers in 2024; one of them was a four-door coupe, while the other was an all-wheel-drive off-road model. Then, a year later, Ford trademarked the name “Mach 4.” That sure sounds like a name that woud follow the same pattern as the Mustang Mach-E.

“I think, for us to do [a sedan], it’s going to have to make sense within our portfolio,” Frick continued. “It’s going to have to make sense within a family that we may already offer. And it’s going to have to be very cost-effective for us to do it. That’s what we’re focused on in general with a lot of our new affordable products. We want the concepts to be right and the costs to be even better.”

Frick is speaking about sedans in general there, but the “family” he’s implying this theoretical four-door could be part of is almost certainly the Mustang family. If Ford decides to simply port over the Mustang’s current powertrain offerings to the sedan, that would accomplish the goal of being cost-effective; it would also be cause for great celebration. The idea of Ford’s 5.0-liter V-8 in a sedan is mighty tempting, and the only thing that’d make it better is if the manual transmission came along for the ride. (Maybe we’re getting a little too hopeful when it comes to a three-pedal option, but it would give the sedan instant credibility as a Mustang product.)

That’s all the info Frick shared for now, but putting all these puzzle pieces together suggests a rather tantalizing sedan could be coming from Ford again soon. If and when said product sees the light of day is still unclear, but we sure are hopeful.

Last I saw the real Mustang was outselling the Mach E since the tax breaks went away.

Personally, I welcome a sedan version of the Mustang, just don't put the Mustang name on it. I like the Marauder name, even if it was technically a Mercury.

Exactly. From everything I've read, the Mach E is a terrific car, but it should not have been branded as a Mustang. Want to make a sedan based on the Mustang chassis? Great. Call it Fusion, Torino, Futura, Galaxie, or some other well-remembered name from Ford's past. Not Mustang!
