It's call pre-roll. The Ring security cameras use the same technology. Basically the camera is always on, but not recording or storing to save battery. When motion is triggered, it's able to rewind using its short term memory data back several seconds before the event and store the occurrence from there.I understand the sensor part. But recording before something happens is a little strange. That means the camera is recording all the time.
