I understand the sensor part. But recording before something happens is a little strange. That means the camera is recording all the time.
It's call pre-roll. The Ring security cameras use the same technology. Basically the camera is always on, but not recording or storing to save battery. When motion is triggered, it's able to rewind using its short term memory data back several seconds before the event and store the occurrence from there.

Good quality camera. When does it turn off? When you turn off the engine? When you turn off the engine and close the doors? Or just like how the USB operates, and shuts off 30 minutes achter everything is off?
Nope, for a certain amount of time (for me it's around 30 minutes I think?). You can set a range via ForScan if I'm not wrong, however it couldn't be 24/7.
The Fitcamx is powered off the rain sensor.

Got mine, front and rear installed, rear cable is mostly hidden

Works well, 100% recommend. Though I've never "needed" a camera before, just was a fomo purchase mostly

Installed this and my hardwired radar detector at the same time, 1000% recommend doing that if you want a detector. Might as well while your in there, saved a lot of time.

Did you power both the camera and radar detector off of the rain sensor by the mirror?

Reviving an old thread with an idea. I plan on installing my fitcamx this weekend. I noticed that the app is also available on the iPad. So as not to create a conflict with carplay, gonna pair up the iPad to the camera and use that to download recordings instead of the phone, then sync with iCloud if needed.

Honestly the one downside of the Fitcamx is the download speed over wifi and that fact that the car needs to be on. Its super slow, plus you have to turnoff android auto or it will keep overriding the wifi connection to the Fitcamx. I discovered its way faster to pop out the memory card and just use a card reader adapter on your phone or laptop to download video. I wouldn't even mess with the wifi.
