I don’t know why I’m posting this but to vent and maybe see if someone has advice. My differential is bad (massive clunking when driving) and it’s going to be replaced by warranty but the differential has been in back order for 2 months.

Is this common? It seems crazy Ford can’t get a differential out for a car in two months. Do they not get to use the same ones that go to making cars?

Is there no escalation point to Ford? Anyone dealt with this? They can’t even give an estimated time when they will be off back order.

I think this is a very rare problem. Two months. Wow! This definitely needs to be bumped up as a major complaint to Ford!

Is there a best way to do that?

I have not had to do it but a couple of guys on the forum have, so hopefully they can advise you. There is info in the owner’s manual also. I would think that your dealer would help you do this. Good discussion with the Service Manager and the General Manager might be helpful if not already done.

I haven't dealt with this personally, but a lot of Raptor owners have. Make sure the dealer you are dealing with is checking OTHER dealer inventory, not just their own AND not just local to them dealers. They need to search dealer inventory nationwide.

Open a case with Ford Customer Service and ask for help locating the part.

Jeez, a complete diff? Why can't they rebuild yours? It's easy enough. Replace the damaged bits, new seals and bearings, set up preload etc, job done.
Do modern Techs not know how?

It’s been since I bought it and getting worse. This is the third dealership I brought it to - the other ignored it, made a tech sit in the car and drive it (it’s a manual) and they were like yeh that’s not right.

He put it on the rack and within 30 mins I had a message saying it was a manufacturing defect and needs to be completely replaced and Ford was covering it.

Yeah, I get that. But getting you back in your car quickly would be nice.
Unless the defect is in the housing itself.

Did you replace (or have replaced) the diff fluid with the additive? I had that in my GTO and changing the fluid w/additive fixed it. It mostly clunked in parking lots and slow turns.

It sounded like it’s the housing.

Ford dealers, at least the ones in my area don't rebuild diffys. They wouldn't even install a ring and pinion from Ford performance.

I thought Dark Horse has Torsen, which does not use clutches (the limited slip is from it's worm gear design), therefore they don't need the friction modifier. Can't hurt to have it in other than it stinks and cost money and must be a certain proportion (otherwise there will be too much or not enough slip), but it won't do anything.

I wonder if all the available stock is for new builds, not rebuilds. Maybe if the OP is eligible and starts the Lemon Law process, it may speed things up.

Florida:

Per https://www.myfloridalegal.com/lemon-law/how-the-florida-lemon-law-works:

- "Lemon Law Rights Period," which is the first 24 months after the date of delivery of the motor vehicle to the consumer
- the vehicle is in and out of the authorized repair shop for repair of one or more different problems for 15 or more cumulative day
- The consumer may be eligible for a purchase price refund or a replacement vehicle if the vehicle is out of service for repair of one or more nonconformities for a cumulative total of 30 or more days
- Lemon Law Hotline (1-800-321-5366; 850-414-3500 outside the state)

They still use Friction modifier...when I had my 4.09s installed in my Torsen the shop did the work put the Ford Friction modifier in as it was in the Ford diffy lube that was used.
