I find it interesting that Ford put all the extra effort into putting a new DH specific compound Pirelli Trofeo RS unproven tire on the DH HP, but opted to use the Michelin Pilot Sport racing tires (Bespoke) on the Dark Horse R.

Wouldn't it have been much easier just to stay with a single manfacturer (Michelin) and use the tried and true not to mention already proven Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in the exact same size P305/30R19 front and P315/30R19 rear they already used on the Mach 1 (With the optional Handling Package)?

I have a feeling that many of the DH HP owners are going to go with the Michelins anyway.

Probably going PS4S very quickly after taking delivery. Would rather save the Trofeos in case I ever do an HPDE.

Good call!

They are just about the only tires that are out there in the stock DH HP sizes.

I was curious why Ford put all the extra effort in the Pirelli Trofeo RS.

Ford seems to have some sort of deal/agreement with Pirelli.

I think there’s more that goes into tire decisions than meets the eye. Think deals, discounts, incentives, etc.
I’m sure Pirelli struck a hot deal with ford seeing as their brand presence in the US is lackluster. Michelin isn’t struggling for cars to throw their tires on from factory

This could be a reach but with Ford partnering with Red bull f1 a part of the deal could have been to switch since Pirelli is the f1 tire sponsor.

well Michelin is a partner of IMSA, the sanctioning body for the Dark Horse R racing series so that probably has something to do with it

as for the base dark horse, my guess is Pirelli was cheaper and fords making more Dark Horses than Dark Horse R's

Don't forget the new Continental Sport Contact 7's. Just replaced my PS4S front tyres with the Conti's and steering feel is much improved.
Do you know if they are available in both DH HP sizes 305/30R19 and 315/30R19? All of the Continental Sport tires I could find were only for the front size, or 325/30R19, none in the 305/30R19.

It may have to due with the manufactures ability to produce enough tires to meet production quantities.

I actually had the Sport Contact DSW whatever on my Challenger and really liked them. Just didn't see the sizes available for the 315 DH rears. But going to 325 is probably a good option. I like wide tires on the back. I'll let someone else try it first though.

Right now that is my option on the rears.

It opens up the choices dramatically. This is what I have found so far:

I’m definitely leaning towards buying a set of dark horse HP size wheels/tires for my GT PP. Now that I see the difference in diameter, it probably makes a big difference in performance…

The smaller height and circumference will give you a bit better acceleration at the expense of speedometer error and higher revs and lower gas mileage over all.

Not to mention that the 315/30R19's have a very limited selection, see my post above.

Look at the bottom of that page for tire size options that stay closer to your stock tire height:
