Best air filter for the Mustang?

I’m with the stock filter team, but i love those roush clear covers. I’m about to buy a set just for the covers.

Looks good, but $550 for a pair of filters and peek-a-boo filter covers seems a bit steep, unless there is more to the kit that I missed.

@Tripower .... truth be told I bought it for the looks BUT after a couple of conversations with Roush customer care and after reading some information they recommended I realized their air filters were IMO way better than most available. I believe AFE makes a custom version for Roush (like Sears used to offer custom versions of appliances under their Kenmore line that were made to enhanced specs for Sears). Totally subjective, but I feel my 2024 GT idles smoother and sounds better under acceleration. Before installing I cleaned the air intake runners upstream of the OEM paper filters - really, really thoroughly - as a test. I installed the Roush. After 500 km and some cottage road driving (dusty) I pulled the Roush filters and there was no dust at all upstream from them. I did this at 1500Km and 3000Km. They ARE effective. They did trap a lot of dust, a few wasps etc. I tapped them on a clean sheet of paper and a lot of debris came out. But - not enough IMO to wash them. I used a shop vac to clean them. They are totally washable (warm water and a mild "neutral soap" like Meguair's or Johnson's baby soap) let them dry thoroughly and reinstall. I actually bought an extra set of sir filters so I could just swap them out to let the washed set dry completely. Bought for looks super impressed with performance. Of course the products can be bought, directly, on line at Roush. :cool: BTW IMO they are very, very well constructed and very effectively made, big time quality.

Mehhh, I went with the Steeda Pro Flow Air Filters and change them out every 3-6 months depending on how much I am driving. Bought a 2nd pair so when I replace the ones in current use, I can let the washed ones dry for an extended period. Always have a pair on standby. Cost wasn’t a concern. YMMV …
Agreed. I've run Steeda filters literally since I can remember. Have a second set, wash them by soaking in warm water with their cleaning solution. Put them in the sun on shop towels for a day. Conservatively coat each pleat with new oil. Next put them on a shop towel below and on top, first with the small end down, then flip them with the small end up for a day on each end. Gently rub the rubber ends with a cloth in mineral spirits. I do this process about every 10K miles, I always have a clean set on the shelf. I've never had a spec of oil in the intake or MAF.

I agree that the double filters and throttle bodies are likely beyond the needs of a 307 cubic inch engine, so OEM filters are likely adequate on the S650. Interestingly, the K&N CAI actually hurts overall HP on a stock 5.0 Coyote. Likely the smaller inside diameter of the air tubes between the MAFs and the TBs on the K&N kits.

I'd really consider an oil vapor recovery system on a 12:1 compression 5.0. Really helps keep the intake tract and especially the intake valves clean.
