What is the best air filter for the Mustang. I want to replace mine. I have always used the K&N red oiled filters(military uses these, in very sandy/dusty areas), but i read so much on how bad the oiled filters are for the throttle bodies, and MAF. I can understand that, if you use to much oil on them, but all I ever do is after after a good cleaning, is just a very light misting of the oil. So are the ford factory filters the best o use, and change them quite frequently. go to the K&N, or try the Blue oiled ones (Steeda(. Thanks of your reply/opinion.

K&N filters are gimmicky garbage. Tests have shown that even oiled properly, they don't filter as well as other filters. And yes, most people do over oil them.

For performance, I prefer a dry filter from Steeda or similar. There is a guy on this site that sells them too. Dry filters are washable and filter more better than the oiled versions.

For max filtering on daily driving or dusty conditions, I'd stick with the factory paper versions. 👍🏻

I use the aftermarket filters from "think auto" i found on this site. He did testing and they are superior to the stock ones. Plus its nice to support a newer small business 👍, ford got enough of my money

I have run think auto filters for almost a year and have been very pleased with them, would highly recommend them.

1. I have been using K&N filters (and the similar brands) for a long long time

2. Have never in my life had a dirty MAF or TB from an oiled filter

3. K&N usually flow "the most" air compared to other filters. Can your car actually consume that air is another weistiin

4. K&N style filters usually also do some of the worst "filtering", which is also why they flow so much, so if you're in a dusty/sandy environment they wouldn't be my first choice

are you willing to trade off filtration for cool noises?

These engines are not starving for air, if you really think they are take out the carbon traps in the intake tubes.

Remember these blocks can not be bored, they need to be sleeved, so I'd be doing everything I could to keep the air going in there filtered as much as I could

Then you won't have to worry about it or have to dink with them when they get dirty.

Why continue to purchase Motorcraft filter replacements when you could just buy a quality set of dry filters from ThInk Auto Tech, aFe, Steeda, etc. and just rinse them off when they get dirty...?
