I measured my battery voltage this morning with a good multimeter - 12.2 volts. I put the battery on my NOCO 5 Genius charger. 4 hours on the charger to get to "Green" - fully charged.

This afternoon I had to go on another short trip - about 8 miles round-trip. I watched the battery gauge the entire time.
Observations:
The gauge only moves in .5 volt increments - 12.5, 13.0, 13.5, etc.
I seemed to get up to 14.5 volts when DECELERATING! When accelerating or driving normally, it would flip between 12.5 & 13.0 volts.
I don't understand how this BMS (battery Management System) works.

I've had the car 9 days and just doing short trips around town. However, I put my charger on the battery as soon as I brought her home.

I daily mine, no need to put it on a trickle charger. I may with my motorcycle if I'm not riding for a few weeks. It typically varies from 12-13 volts prior to starting.

I think you're overthinking all this, @DCS.

Anyways, here's how the BMS works: How Does Ford Battery Management System Work? [Updated On- 2024] (poweringautos.com)
Talk about being redundant! I understand the need to start powering down courtesy lights and other accessories. However, not in my case. Car was shut off and not used again for 24 hours. Only drain would have been the parasitic drain of the various computers - measured at somewhere between 100mA and 300mA..

When I checked my battery voltage this morning, the car had not been used for 24 hours. A reading of 12.2 volts is pretty low. This is why I put it on the charger.

LOL! After I posted that, I went back and went through that article again. Redundant is an understatement! :cwl:

All batteries are different, but a resting voltage between 12.0 and 12.7 is what I would consider "normal".

I don’t have the meter for measuring amp draw. But I agree with you, I drove 120 miles the other day, when I got home I placed my Noco Genius 5 on the battery and at 4 hours on charge the green light was pulsing not solid green.

Wow! 120 miles and it still took 4 hours to "green". BTW: I don't think it ever goes solid green.
Do you have a decent multimeter than can measure DC Voltage?

Same thing here. Took 4-5 hours to get the green light on mine after driving a good bit that morning. Seems like part of the BMS is not fully powering the battery up.

I wish the @Ford Motor Company would weigh in on this.

Leave your charge on however long you want to ensure it's fully charged.

Remove the charger.

Wait 20 seconds.

Reattach your charger.

Surprise! It will blink and NOT be solid.

Unlikely unless the car has left you stranded. Even the bulk of the random no start issues with warnings described by other and myself previously don't seem to be due to the battery as the cars will start after sitting for a short bit. I have personally only had it happen once and the battery was sitting at 12.x volts when it wouldn't start and still the same when it did start. I personally think it was an update issue when I first got the car. Hasn't repeated since.
