Bad Navigation

I've had several cars with navigation. My mustang is absolutely the worst example for a navigation I've ever used. It couldn't find any address or even McDonalds. There isn't a key board to make an input. I knew the general location somewhere between Toledo and Cleveland. I hoped the nav could be a little more exact. It did recognize drive me to home, I already knew how to get there.

It has a screen keyboard for entering destinations.

I find the system works really well.

I use apple car play linked to my phone. GOGGLE MAPS and WAZE work super good. Waze sometimes takes you a little out of the way, but will get you to your destination, but the bonus is it shows where all the other 5.0 are.

Sorry, although the Ford system does work and is adequate, WAZE or Google Maps ( both are Google products) are superior navigation apps, to the point that Garmin is just about out of the consumer automotive stand alone GPS market.

Waze and Google are constantly updated, once you are not on a Ford data plan your GPS is running on whatever map package is installed in the unit and is obsolete.

If you have android auto, the minute the phone connects the navigation defaults to whatever app is on your phone

Who doesn't love a thread with 100% absolutes, AMIRITE?

The Nav system on my Mustang has worked well for me, in the locations I've set for it, navigated to and so on. Several things will contribute to a good or bad experience.

1) A map is like a weather forecast. it's a point in time representation of what is where.
2) If the map set is 'thin' for your particular location, it will give disappointing results. If it's well detailed, you'll get good results from a search.
3) if you're out where the buses don't run, yeah, the map is probably going to disappoint you.

One thing that I really do like about the '24+ Mustang is the big nav screen with lots of relevant detail.

Sometimes, let's be honest - we're the problem, not the tech.
Back in the days of hand held GPS that you could mount to a motorcycle, I was using one to head back from Ballymoney, NI to Dublin. For some STOOPID REASON, the gps WOULD .... NOT.... TAKE ME TO HOME... It wold think, spin its display icon and not complete, until about the tenth try and it joyously responded with:
"Drive 3,000 miles, then turn left"
Good job Garmin!!! I mean, that was probably a pretty close approximation.

yeah, the Dublin hotel wasn't 'home', Virginia was at the time.
It worked much more quickly and precisely when I put in the Dublin hotel we were staying at as the destination.

Never even used the car navigation. Always Android Auto navigation.

My only advice on that is to not use it
use Android Auto or Apple car play
With Google maps waze ect...

"Obsolete" is a strong term. "Increasingly dated over time" would be more accurate. The vast majority of roads shown in any map set do not change from year to year. So even old compilations retain a great deal of utility. If you prefer every conceivable route to be as current as possible, then yes, you need a system that is updated in real time. But stored maps are far from useless, even after years have elapsed. This is the principle that undergirds atlases and folding paper maps, a mainstay of gas stations and AAA in past eras.

I didn't renew Ford Nav. Waze does the job, but I'm sure Google is more accurate.

I've only used my Ford Nav a couple of times in 27 months. NPs with either time; no intention of updating my maps until the 5 year mark (village of 10K people; I'd have to work pretty hard to get lost here). .

I use Apple Maps or Waze via Apple CarPlay. Maps always update and great traffic info! Tried the Sync4 Navigation once and that didn’t last 30 minutes. Also, for areas that I travel without cell service out here in the great western outdoors I have downloaded Apple Maps in my phone, so when I am out of cell range the iPhone navigation switches to the off-line maps.

Reconfigured roads, added exits ( Exit 4A in NH will be operational soon)

There is a reason in Aviation databases are valid for about 3 months

Sectional charts are also refreshed, one every 56 days and none are valid after 6 months

The database on my 16 Toyota was on a SD card, several hundred dollars to replace and the data was a year out of date from the time they made the cards.

Business 301 around Stark FL, a place you really want to bypass does not show on the navigation of my 22 Toyota's nav system

I'm not saying automotive GPS is perfect, it is like a code scanner it gives you information, it is up to you to verify its accuracy before use.


The recently reconfigured I 90 / I 495 intersection in MA has moved the ramps, you stay left as your GPS says and you are not going where you want to

IMHO no company is putting the resources into mapping that Google does.

After spending $60000, I expect the navigation to work better than a free app.
