I want to use the car's built-in navigation instead of what is on my iPhone. The problem is I can only do this if my iPhone is powered off.
Is there a way i can "prefer" the car's built-in navigation?

Not quite sure of what you're asking... you can use the built-in navigation regardless of Apple CarPlay being active. Just hit the Home button and click on the map and that'll be your built-in navigation system.

Are you sure? I am new to this and the first time I tried it and did what you suggested. What came up was maps from my iPhone. I was unable to save a destination as a favorite which alerted me to the problem.
However, the next time I accessed the map, the built-in nav popped up and I was able to save a favorite. I'll have to try again and remember my EXACT steps.

What I do is very Simple.
Just press the Voice Command button.
I say,
Destination street address.
Then just listen to the Voice Command.
Follow the directions.

If you press and immediately release the voice button, you are talking to the Ford Assistant (in vehicle assistant).

If you press and HOLD the voice button for ~2 seconds THEN release it, you are talking to Siri or Google Assistant (on the connected phone).
