Automatic or 6-speed - honest feedback

When you comment about auto VS manual, specify if you experienced an auto WITH paddles or without, coz there's the whole world of difference (I would "die" in my car without the paddles, and I would have returned it the next week.. but with the paddles, I'm in full control and I'm not missing the stick.. just saying).

I've had manuals all my life and this automatic I ordered is exactly what I wanted which is fun. Paddle shifting is whatever I want it to be, when I want it, or just not shifting with them. The auto shifts lightening fast.

I don't want a computer rev matching for me or any of that kind of thing. I remember when clutch adjustment was loosening a nut, moving the linkage then tightening the nut again. That was manual shifting.

My 07 manual GT wouldn't compression brake due to the programming with the five speed and that's when Ford lost a manual owner for good. Not criticizing anyone that has a manual. LIke my signature says, "If you can't have fun, don't show up". They're both good so I recommend the OP get two cars with one of each......

Rev matching is the paddle equivalent of the automatic ( well not really but it is a settable option)

I did enjoy the paddles on my 10-speed until you came to stop signs/lights, it got jerky 3,2,1. But yes , they make it fun and they shift pretty fast when warmed up.
As far as full control, not so much.. you need a clutch for full control.

Paddles are cool if you account for the delay, and learn to shift almost a full second before you want it to. If accelerating and you want the next gear at a certain RPM, I learned to hit the paddle about 500 RPM early.

Higher gears? Didn't measured mine, but it feels a way less than a second from the moment I hit the paddle and the change to happens, more likely within 0.3s, at least for the first 4 gears, upshifting. Downshifts seems to have more lag.

There was a comment on the savagegeese vid of the GTD about the precision of the shifts in auto track mode. It was claimed it shifts when and where an expert driver would.
That remains to be seen, but it would be a great trick.

There's no lag in my paddle shifting at all. Mine is instant. I'm generally not an automatic transmission person but this 10 speed is not an ordinary automatic IMO. Nobody can shift faster than it can but I don't go around racing my car so no big deal. Most likely, a six speed and the automatic is a wash for me. Either one would work for me because, like I said, I'm not a racer boy.

The 10r80 is good no question, but it’s not even remotely as fast as a dual clutch transmission. Go test drive a GTI or a golf R if you want to understand how fast an “instant” shift can be.

I bought the car I want the way I want for my reasons. No Volkswagens for me. That's a big pass.

I am aware of that. i was reading before first grade. That might be a good idea but I don't really want to rag a dealer's car. Maybe I will run into someone that owns one that wouldn't mind. I would like to know compared to my transmission which I do like a lot. I probably bought my Mustang for different reasons than a majority of people. When things settle down, it will see more miles, a lot more.

But it's less than that mentioned "good one second", so I've mentioned 0.3s, however I never measured that. If you've ever tried a "sport car" (ie: Porsche) you will feel what's "instant", but either an Audi is faster.
People are maybe confused by the delay when you're driving slowly, that's the way the gearbox logic works, but when driving "fast" the delay is negligible and there's no manual gearbox that could compete with it.

The DSG box is a wonderful thing, it can be a little jeky in stop/start traffic, but using one on a twisty road is magic.
But, the absolute best trans is a bike box, dog clutch gears, no synchro, with clutchless up and down shifting.

Maybe because I’m still breaking the car in and not driving it too hard while paddle shifting. Only 750 miles so far. For me it seems downshifts are much more immediate than upshifting. In my car there is definitely a lag.

These car have adaptive technology, so depending on how each person drives their car, we might not be able to do direct comparisons from car to car.
