It isn't just design it is the practicality. The 10R80 was modified for stop start cars, do they really want to fit two different versions of the transmission knowing that export models still need it?
Job 1 S650s didn't have ASS, and there was no interruption in manufacturing for 2025. I highly doubt there are two separate 10R80s just for ASS. My guess is that it's a simple modification.

In my personal experience, AS/S has saved me as much as 3-5 MPG in my primary vehicle. I have almost never had it on in my Mustang, and the few times I did it was because I was actually not beating on the throttle, so I can't say for sure how effective it is in the Mustang.

^^^^^^^^^ You and me both. Gas and tire costs don't enter my "worry list". It's a Mustang GT and they cost money to buy, money at the pump, and money when tires need to be replaced.

After market sellers know people can't afford what they drive or they wouldn't offer to finance mods at terms that are likely ridiculous. After buying the car that wasn't affordable, the first thing a lot of people do is throw mods all over the car paid for on credit. I guess that makes people feel better but how they sleep at night is beyond me. LOL!

I just wrote a check for my car. I know what I carry in my checking account and didn't have to check the balance because it's a business account used for a lot of things including company vehicles which can be any kind I want them to be. I invest plenty in my business, get good ROI's through a financial planner, and an interest bearing bank account. Cash needs to be invested for positive returns and flowing as needed.

No, it isn't good for cars. You can read in thousands of places that the most wear in an engine occurs at start up. And, no, in my opinion, it doesn't improve gas mileage. I think car makers are desperate to meet EPA CAFE standards, thus this dumb feature.

I'm just used to starting my car and immediately hitting the start/stop delete button right next to the start button. Start/stop has to be the most asinine features to ever be put in a car.

BTW, I have a lifetime car average of 20.2 mpg. I've never re-set "Trip 2" since I got the car 3700 miles ago so it includes all kinds of driving. I don't think 20.2 is bad at all and my car isn't babied. It's seen it's share of speed and hard pedal pushing. FWIW. FD
Frog do you have an ecoboost or v8 ??

Dealer disabled mine and it has never come back on. Start/Stop is very harmful to vehicles (many reasons already mentioned) one really bad on engine like. Unused gas gets dumped into cylinders and dilutes the engine oil reducing its effectiveness over time. Disable the stupid program a.s.a.p.
I don't think so, when the engine shuts down, so do the injectors. Oil analysis would have shown this if it actually happens.

Nice MPG !! Mine im lucky to get close to that..
I have an A10 transmission and a 3:15 rear end but I think people tend to mis-judge that set up.

No, I wouldn't go up against your car unless it's a manual, but the A10 is rather amazing when it downshifts into a low gear and takes off hard and fast shifting super fast until I let off the gas.

I'll tattle on myself in that the car has seen 150 and it got there quick. Around town, it basicly almost idles around in a high gear because it has the torque and power to do that. I can put it in sport mode and it completely changes it's personality and gets very quick driving and handling. I can't beat everybody by far but it isn't a slow set up either. Just sayin'.

I'll find out tomorrow because I'm leaving on a thousand mile round trip with 90% on the highway. I'm predicting at least 24+ mpg driving how I want. The radar detector will be my little buddy.

The biggest downside to stop/start is premature wear to the timing chain.

Timing chains rely on oil to keep all the links lubricated and from having the pins grind up against the links. Every time you stop the car, the links lose some of that oil and you get an absolutely microscopic and immesurable amount of wear. Do this ten or fifteen times a day, 5 days a week, half a decade, and you get a few fractions of a millimeter of slop in a single link.

Multiply that fraction of a millimeter across a few feet of chain, a couple dozen or so links, and now your timing is off.

This is the single biggest issue with stop start, in my opinion. I've seen it cause premature damage to motors at 1xx,xxx miles. Its not a problem with shorter chains, but on a longer set like on Audi's or the Coyote, its 100% a consideration in my mind.
I doubt that. Timing chains are splash lubricated, they stay soaked in oil for much longer than an engine is stopped in a typical stop/start episode.
Our '70's and 80's era patrol bikes and cars would sit engine off for up to half an hour or so and then get fired up and rung out in a pursuit. None ever killed a timing chain.

When all is said and done, it boils down to a personal choice. I choose to disable mine. Not convinced it isn't harmful to the engine and probably won't be convinced without compelling real world hard proof. I haven't seen it yet. What I've seen so far is all anecdotal and that doesn't change my mind on what I believe.

I have 2 coins.
One is used and abused constantly.
The other one is just sitting on the table.

Which coin will look better in the long run?
Do you clean the table coin regularly? Or is it all green and grubby from not being fingered enough?
