My ‘24 GT Premium Convertible, NPP, Brembo w/painted calipers is having intermittent problems with the Active Exhaust about 80% of the time. The few times that it does work is when I’ve selected a particular drive mode and the exhaust is set to match the driving mode. If I go into the “My Mustang” screen, and manually select a particular exhaust mode, I get an error that it’s “not available right now. Please try again later.” LOL It has also caused my check engine light to come on and throw a code. That code is P2BFB and what I could find out via Google was that it’s related to the Active Exhaust. Some F-150’s with Coyotes are also having the same issue.

I took it into my dealership a week or two ago and told them about it. I don’t know if all they did was try to lubricate the exhaust valves in the back, but as soon as I drove away from the dealership, it was already malfunctioning. I believe it needs a new actuator for the valve on one of the pipes. Since it basically runs OK, I haven’t been in a super hurry to get back to the dealership because I’m waiting on another part (trim piece) that’s backordered. One of the straps on my convertible top caught a piece of the plastic trim when I was putting it back up and it snapped the retaining clips (plastic). Now it catches it every time I put the top up. I temporarily put duct tape on it to hold it so it won’t get caught until the part comes in.

I've never received the "Active Exhaust Not Available" however I did have an actuator fail 2 months into ownership of a brand new 2021 Mustang GT Premium.

Ford dealership tried to avoid replacing it saying it hadn't yet failed but it was making a grinding noise every time one of the valves activated and so they eventually relented.

If it works sometimes, but not others, do you hear any noises when switching modes when it does work?

I don’t really hear anything when it works. It’s when it doesn’t that I hear it. Not necessarily bad noises like grinding or anything like that. I just hear it opening and closing a couple of times while it tries to determine what position it’s currently in. It opens and closes 2-3 times and then basically gives up and then the error shows up on the screen.

Hrmmmmm, well whatever the root cause is it's covered under warranty.

I would schedule with Ford to replace one, or both, actuators on the valves.

Then if that doesn't work they are going to get into the expensive shit like checking the control boards and wiring.

Oh, totally under warranty. I just dislike having to give them the car for a day or two.

@BigSid ..... regarding your convertible top damage. I have a 2024 GT Premium convertible. While raising it a couple of weeks ago the same thing happened to me. It made an awful cracking noise. It was on the driver's side. I used 3M tape to hold it down. There is almost no clearance between the parts. In fact they actually rub against each other every time the top goes up. All done under warranty and only took 15 minutes but the part is expensive. I think it was over $200.00 My hope is that doesn't keep happening! If this becomes common Ford will lose a lot of profit.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

This has happened to me maybe twice since last October. Because it's fleeting and rare I haven't done anything about it. The computer in the car just seems to have weird things happen from time to time, like the collision warning coming on when there's not a car in front of you, or weird warnings that flash on the screen then disappear. There's not really a way to duplicate these at the dealer since they rarely happen so not much point in taking it in.

Now, if the car isn't starting, like mine a few months back because the computer had that issue a number of people had, then yeah, take it in.

I just wanted to mention here that I did end up taking my Mustang back to the dealership and they were able to diagnose the faulty exhaust actuator valve and replaced it. It has been running and working good as new again!! Such sweet exhaust sounds coming at me again!!! 🥰
