Any new rumors/hints on the possible 4 door based off the current Mustang?

All,

(Ground rules, this is not a place to talk about potential names, etc., just trying to gather any new potential info)

I have been searching the web recently and I have noticed that we don't have any recent information about the potential 4 door that might be based off the current Mustang. I was wondering if anyone here might have heard anything more than has been reported back in August?

It would be nice to know if this is being seriously considered by Ford (because I would be interested and base my next car purchase decision on it potentially existing), or if it was just a marketing pipe dream that's not going to go anywhere.

I personally have friends over at FRAP…
Nothing has rolled down the line to get paint.

so, even if it’s coming there hasn’t even been a trial unit…. So I wouldn’t count on 2026 even, perhaps 27 or 28

which would make sense, I could see 2028, alongside the S650 refresh.

thank you. I figured as automakers are a very cautious industry that moves slowly instead of fast innovation.

Would a 4 door even use the D2C platform? I doubt it as there would be very little room in the back within the constraints of D2C. More likely it would use another platform so maybe not even produced in Flat Rock if it were to ever exist.

As I think about this s bit more, maybe Ford should have named the eMustang, the Pinto!

If Ford were to make a four door Mustang, they'd end up killing the brand. They almost did, with the eMustang in my opinion.
Honestly a 4 door sedan based off the mustang would likely save the mustang. They need more running down the assembly line and right now sales are bad for the mustang.

The Challenger existed because Charger Sales allowed it to

again, not talking names as mentioned in the OP

A couple of weeks ago there were a few concept pictures of a new FORD TAURUS 4 Door Sedan that would have Law Enforcement applications. The pictures also showed a sporty version of the vehicle. The car was absolutely beautiful, more style and class than a S650. I hope this is the route FORD goes. Leave the Mustang as is. TAURUS and Four door are a match.

As far as I'm aware the Taurus is only for the Chinese and Middle East markets and made in China?

Where did you get those numbers from?
Only info we have is that a refresh was planned for 2025. No info if that is still up to date but definitely not 2028 when the S650 should end around 2029.

The rumors came up around two years ago which would most likely align with planing the S750 program. The S650 refresh should have already been finalized and even the end of the S650. As @Gregs24 mentioned it is highly unlikely that the D2C can handle anything but what we have now.

Maybe they speed up the process (highly doubtful) and release a much needed truly new S750 early... Unless they significantly change the S650 I don't see sales going up... Therefore, I hope for a truly new S750 on a new platform that delivers something significantly better and different (less weight, bigger engine, optional AWD etc) to what we have now.

I suspect the S650 will limp on and overlap with an S750 which will be an electrified alternative on a completely new platform. I can't see there being a bespoke platform for such small volumes.

I could imagine something like that. However, since you guys voted for reasoning I don't see a bright future for anything electric in the upcoming years. It might be inevitable in the distant future because EVs are objectively superior to gas cars but we're talking 2040/50 and beyond.

As a result I see more and more manufacturers do a 180 and go back to regular cars. And keeping in mind that they want to establish Mustang as a brand I don't see how that would work without a V8.
In addition, they don't need a 'new' bespoke platform. Just use one platform for all your future cars. Since Ford isn't really in the 'car' business anymore , one modern platform would be sufficient for basically all other variants (cars, SUVs etc.). It would also keep the costs down by offering limited engine options that are in line with what the trucks have.
FlatRock might/most likely has to go but if that would keep the Mustang healthy and alive I would be ok with it.

There is no going back already. Yes some are now transitioning slower and more PHEV's are popping up than originally expected but all of the R&D money and environmental pressure is only going one way. There isn't a 180 going on just a slightly slower transition with extended lifetime ICE cars. EV sales are still increasing, just not as fast as they were.

Platform wise - there are hybrid platforms that can accommodate ICE and EV but they are usually a compromise. Ford already have EV platforms with more on the way so it would be easy to use one of those. Ford is still a car business outside the US.

At this point I just want to see it available for purchase when it's completely ready to be sold.
