This is an excerpt from Christian Seabaugh Writer/Photographer from Motor Trend"...If there's a problem with the new Mustang EcoBoost, it's with its transmission. Although it's fine for around-town driving and cruising, we found the gearbox was prone to upshifting early and downshifting late regardless of drive mode—sometimes even midcorner—which really neutered what could be an enjoyable canyon carver. We'd have opted for shifting ourselves, but Mustang EcoBoosts without the performance package have a traditional PRNDL gear selector and no way to select gears manually."...

And what about it, as with any new car there will be issues and these are all pre production models. Or if they are production models they’re very very early builds. I wouldn’t lose any sleep

Funny, just watched Raiti's Ride and (lack of paddle shifter aside) he liked the transmission and said it was much improved over the S550's.

With respect to any automatic, there is a learning mode occurring, especially during break-in. Drive modes, if available, will also impact shifting. Not saying it's not a possible issue, but one review does not a trend make.

Let's see what happens once these units are properly broken-in with the same driver.

Word is they spent a lot of time on shift points and speed. It needed it because stock the 10r80s for the s550s aren’t fast

I am just posting an excerpt from Motor Trend. If you have a problem with the excerpt, you need to take it up with Motor Trend.

Aren't early builds what most folks are ordering right now?
I believe that when they are saying early builds they mean the ones after the hand built models and the ones prior to dealer stock / customer orders. They are built just for showcasing, media, and photo ops. Probably the first 50-100 cars depending on Ford's needs. They will become test mules and parted out in the future for other variations. They will not go to a dealers lot.

This is very true. My Grand Cherokee SRT automatic transmission was miserable when I first got it. Shifting up, Shifting down, when I didn't want it to. But gradually over time it adapted to my particular driving style and now it's much more enjoyable. But at the end of the day if you want the car to shift exactly when you want it to ... get a stick.
