After waiting for 6 months, my dealer finally told me that I could pick up my mustang GT . I was extremely excited, but I found on YouTube that some people found that their Mustang had defects when it was manufactured. As this is my first car, I want to know what I should check on the day I pick up the car, and what I need to confirm with my dealer. If anyone has a good idea, please let me know. Thank you!

Check for panel gaps, check for paint chips.. all the standard stuff.
The S650 doesn't suffer from anything abnormal that doesnt effect other cars as well.

Just check things out, get any issues addressed and acknowledged before handing over so much money.

Everything RJV15 just said is spot on. I've attached the pre-delivery inspection checklist here. Review it yourself and bring it with you. I did not have the underbody strakes (PP) attached and I had to request the front plate bracket even though my state requires 2 license plates (some here would argue against drilling and there are other options). Others here didn't even get their antenna screwed in or worse, not removing covers/spacers shown on page 2.

Enjoy your new ride and don't forget to update with pics!

Look it over good... make sure any included items are there/installed.
Bring a second set of "experienced" eyes can be a big help if you are not.

Here are some general recommendation from experience.

1. Ask if they can pull the car where you have plenty of room to back up and look at it from all sides with nothing in your way (i.e. not in a parking space next to other cars). It's usually easier to spot things outside with good sunlight, but still bring a flashlight with you as well in case it is indoors and the lighting is not great.

2. Ask them to give you about thirty minutes to look over it, and tell them you'll come let them know when you're done. You're more likely to rush and overlook something if the salesperson is standing there waiting on you. If they know you're planning to do more than just give it a once over, they'll usually leave you alone. You may not need thirty minutes, but at least you'll have plenty of time without someone hovering.

3. Be reasonable. While others may disagree, don't take a micrometer or tape measure to every gap and space. If the gaps look good to the naked eye when you are intentionally comparing them, then that should be sufficient. Understand everything is not going to be symmetrical with a 1/1000th inch tolerance.

4. With #3 in consideration, don't ignore stuff that should be corrected. For example, if a wheel is scratched, have them fix it. Just because the average Joe may not worry about it, don't overlook something that will drive you crazy forever. Also, anything that needs to be fixed, but isn't completed before you sign the papers, make sure it is documented on a "We Owe" form. If it's not documented when you sign the papers, chances are it won't get done and you will have little recourse.

Sounds like fun. Enjoy the process !!!! If you look close enough imperfections will be found. Just be sure you are ok with what you find.

after taking delivery it will start to get normal wear and tear.

the plastic interior is very prone to scratching. The little center console rubber pad as well. I need to fix my dash now bc of a scratch I made by accident when lowering my briefcase into the passenger side floor. DOH !!!!!!

Also ask the dealer about the holes in the two front panels behind each wheel. They led in every thing into the rocker panels.. Kits available to fix. Check the forum for this defect.

When I bought my 2017 Rap, the downpayment was the biggest personal check I’d written to date and it was literally 2x the cost of my last new car. I took pictures from every angle, in the cabin, engine bay, bed and from underneath. Then i test drove it about 45 minutes and check again for leaks. Then I told the sales lady “Honestly, I don’t like it” in the best deadpan voice I could muster ( I really did like it). After about 5 or 6 seconds I relented, I really don’t think she ‘bought it’ so to speak. Ford Raptor Forum had a post of things found upon pickup and I went through all of them. We spent more time going over what might be wrong than on paperwork. I found nothing...

But Some of our members did the stop by, sign papers and drive off, one of us ran out of coolant about 20 odd miles later, another had a transmission lose all its fluid.

Don’t be that guy. If you find something major, as mentioned previously make sure you note it and either get a promise to fix OR walk away and make them fix it on their own time/dime. Use the check lists posted here to work from. Take pictures, make sure everything actually works.

So my advice would be:
Make sure you’re ready for a lift that big. Stretch first, and work up to it - maybe have some buddies help on the warm up lifts🏋️‍♀️
Maybe start with a used front driver first to warm up and then pick up the GT.
