I wish I had bought shares in Pioneer after doing the upgrade on my S550 and writing the thread. There must be literally hundreds of speakers sold based on my upgrade and thread on S550!

Sales commission time, Bro!

I have yet to put it through it’s paces seriously, but I did briefly catch “Take it Easy” on the radio, and to my surprise I could hear the banjo clearly, which is orders of magnitude better than the Raptor stereos from ’17-’20.
Ah, the radio probably introduces a lot of variables. I think anyone meaning to test the quality of a car's speaker system thoroughly should use a bluetooth/carplay/android auto connection with at least 320kb/s audio from something like Spotify or Tidal. Any time I've used the radio itself to listen to music, I'm shocked at the overall degradation.

I just ordered the REDLINE SW Series 300W 10-Inch Subwoofer EOL (D4) from DD audio. Slightly better efficiency than the Pioneer but doubt one could hear the difference. Close out with no tax. $85.62 includes shipping.
That’s what I ordered. I am a big DD fan and their Redline series is a great value. I prefer dedicated speaker companies than big box electronics.

And definitely no placebo effect. I cannot comment on the Pioneer but the DD hits much harder and tighter than the stock sub. The difference is very clear!

anyone tried just wrapping the enclosure with dynamat or similar? First Raptor Mod I did was an implementation of an F150 forum mod

heat gun to the enclosure ; fit a kicker 8”, wrap the sub in dynamat, amp with a 300w kenwood. Even with the bass roll off it was a definite improvement.

I’m following this mod and will probably queue this one up first.
I did wrap mine in dynamat because I added an amp. At higher volumes you could hear the cracking sound of the enclosure flexing. Solved the problem. If you're not adding an amp it probably won't be necessary.

I think I’m going to go with a DD as well. Was it plug and play? And also where’d you get that grill to protect it?

It is the same P&P connection as the Pioneer. Grill came from Amazon.

Did a little upgrade on the stock subwoofer after following a thread on the s550 forums. The pioneer replacement subwoofer was only $79 and took less than an hour to do!

Sounds tighter and more crisp than the OEM subwoofer.

Honestly kind of surprised with how much better it sounds over the crappy cardboard subwoofer that comes factory.

I figured I would make a video on the install because I couldn't find one and its just easier to follow along a video than sift through 40 pages of a forum thread

Couple things: I would have over drilled the holes and made them bigger - would that have solved the issue - I think, and cleaner ...?

You definitely could drill out some new holes. I just would rather modify the speaker rather than the box. Less expensive to replace the speaker than the enclosure if I had messed anything up.

I meant the speaker - not the box 👍🏻

Do you wire both negatives and both positives from the car to one side of the subwoofer or do you wire one of each from the car to one of each form the sub?
