Ford and Shelby's only play left for Mustangs is milking boomer nostalgia until the boomer generation dies out (no offense to boomers on this board).
While Shelby American seems to be taking that approach, Ford isn't. Ford alienated boomers with the Mach E and the iPad screens in the S650. A lot of older boomers (the ones who truly experienced the 60s muscle car era as teens or young adults) never even warmed up to the S550, considering it "too European" in appearance. The one exception is the S550 Bullitt. It definitely was popular with boomers who accepted the S550.

For perspective, I'm a young boomer who grew up in the 70s. (We had the worst cars, lol.) I'm in a senior golf league with 130 people, primarily boomers 5-15 years older than me. The only performance cars I see in the lot when arriving for tournaments are S197 Shelbys and C5 or C6 Vettes. My S550 is the only one in the lot.

I agree that the S550 went too European. The added roundness doesn't make it look more refined, it makes it look more like just another boring family car. I think the mustangs in the mid-60's actually looked best of all.

If Chevy had just modernized the camaro's interior and fixed the visibility issues for a 2024 model I probably would have bought one of those (in SS convertible configuration) instead. When people occasionally comment they thought my S650 was a camaro at first, I take it as a huge compliment.

Larry Chen has a lengthy Youtube video with Vince at the Shelby factory on the super snake R, I started watching it last night, will finish it tonight. He makes good videos.
Yeah it looks cool, but was shocked when I saw the high price lol.

If Chevy had fixed the visibility issues with the Camaro I might have bought one because of the superior alpha chassis. But not because of the looks. I think Chevy dropped the ball with the 6th generation Camaro when they kept the styling basically the same as the 5th gen. I would have preferred a modern take on the early 70s Camaro.

I owned a 6th Gen for like 3 years and had zero visibility issues.

^ ‘73? I passed the ‘74 to the son. Currently stored away in grandmas garage, some local wildlife had a field day with the msd box wiring when he was out in the field for a bit. But otherwise imo the new super snake grill leaves a bit to be desired, looks unfinished.

225k. My god man. I bought my first foxbody, used, for 4500 bucks back in the 90s. Makes spending 68k on my Dark horse seem like a bargain…

I'll defer to the experts and experienced here as I spent my life on Jeeps, but I watched this video today and it may justify some of the price........ Vince from Shelby....... Car and shop tour. Nice 46 minute intro to the R. Get your order in soon, only 100 will be made and the list is already checking off.....

There's no justification for that price other than rich boomer's existing. It's their money, I have zero interest.

Was a good video......but I think Shelbys biggest problem is Ford.....
I think Ford is going to launch something very cool here pretty soon at half the price based on the other threads in here....

A non supercharged S650 GT350 is 110K ....a handling pack Dark Horse starts at what....75K? Im betting the Dark Horse outperforms a non supercharged S650 on the track - or its very close ....but even if its really close and barely loses to the GT350- your talking a 35K price difference with the same Coyote motor .....
