Hot on the heels of our shots of a hot Mustang coupe with a center-exit exhaust, we caught this new S650 Shelby GT500 Mustang Convertible signaling that Ford may finally be bringing back the drop top GT500 last seen in the S197 Mustang generation. Our sources tell us that the GT500 is planned as a 2026 model year in calendar year 2025.

This convertible mule features lower and wider stance than the standard S650 and is riding on the S550 GT500’s carbon fiber wheels, while also fitted with a quad-exhaust set-up in keeping with the current GT500 formula.

**Update** As noted by several members, the GT500 prototype is also wearing the larger export-market side mirrors which could be an indication the GT500 is finally going to be officially sold in overseas markets.

Well that certainly did not take long!

I'm LOVING that front end. And if this prototype is indicative of anything, we're getting a drop-top variant this time around!

As I mentioned earlier I'll be keeping my eyes peeled in case I see this in person myself. Won't take any pictures though...

Another performance mustang likely inspired by the gt3 race car was spied today. Seems like Ford isn't sitting on their hands this time around, jumping right into the halo models which is great to see.
