Ford Authority spotted the GT500 successor as a convertible... I fancy the idea and would buy one if it would come as a manual. However, as far as I remember the S550 GT500 was also spotted as a convertible and even auctioned off for charity if I'm not mistaken. Besides, the same happened to the S650 Dark Horse... One official Ford build convertible was auctioned off for charity... But none ever made it into any showrooms.

I think the chassis couldn't handle the power in the S550 and is still not able to handle even more power. That's why we don't get a S650 supercharged convertible. There are multiple reports online where supercharged S550 convertible literally broke apart... Just my 2C.

Besides, since Ford trademarked 'Cobra' and the equivalent Cobra logo in several countries it is safe to say that the car will bear the name Cobra or 'Dark Horse Boss' as that was also trademarked. So we're getting two new cars and I would assume the convertible will part of the non supercharged Dark Horse Boss lineup, if ever.

Didn't even see the antenna because the photos were either taken in front of a tree or had other reasons why it didn't pop out as much as it should...

Still not sure about those exhaust tips... Reminds me of those fake as$ AMG square exhaust tips... Loved the ones on the GT500...

For those who can't do without a loud exhaust, should be well pleased with the humongous exhaust tips!

The main issue with a supercharged convertible is that it lacks the structural "hoop" of a roof, so a GT for example would need to be heavily modified to handle the extra power for a sustainable length of time.

Low-profile jacking rails that run the full length of the rocker panels could be added, which would act as modern subframe connectors, tying the front and rear of the car together. Steeda and BMR make versions of these.

The rear subframe (cradle) on the Mustang is held in by rubber bushings that allow the whole assembly to move under load. Installing "support braces" that bolt the cradle directly to the chassis would help to prevent the rear end from "squirming" under high torque. Steeda makes a "stop the hop" kit that could help with this, but they don't make one for the convertible trim!

Engine-wise, the parts that send power to the wheels are the first to break, which means it would need upgraded half-shafts (CV axles). Ford Performance and GForce offer 1,500+ hp rated half-shafts, by my understanding.

The stock two-piece driveshaft has a center bearing that can fail under extreme stress, so a one-piece aluminum or carbon fiber driveshaft is standard on factory Shelbys for a reason.

For the rear suspension, the stock vertical links are made of stamped steel with soft rubber. Replacing these with billet aluminum versions with delrin or spherical bearings prevents the rear tires from "bucking" (wheel hop), which is what usually causes parts to shatter.

The standard 6-rib belt often slips when the Whipple, for example, is pushed to high boost. A 10-rib system would provide more surface area to prevent belt snap and slip.

Finally, if you have the 10R80 automatic, the increased heat from 800 hp can cook the fluid quickly, which calls for an upgraded heat exchanger.

I have an automatic GT convertible that I've considered supercharging, but to do it in a sustainable manner would take a lot of upgrades that would cost a small fortune.

I don't know whether Shelby addressed all of these with their '24 Super Snakes, but if Ford did with a new variant it would NOT be cheap, and realistically I don't know how much demand there would actually be for one.

So my guess, which could be completely wrong, is Ford just puts their new NA "legend" motor in it which cranks out more than 480hp but less than 800hp to avoid having make some of the aforementioned upgrades, calls it a boss or a cobra, also offers it in fastback trim, and price point comes in around $90K - $120K. Any more than that and buyers with that kind of money are having the "might as well buy a Shelby" conversation.
