To my knowledge it’s an oil additive that coats the engine and makes it run smoother, cooler, and quieter. Exhaust still loud as heck but the engine bay is quieter for sure. Just put it in the oil input while engine was cold and it’s all good now!
So I have a brand new car with only 662 miles on it and I have to use an additive to quiet a ticking noise in my motor? Geez! They replaced my Gateway Module 3 weeks ago. I can hardly wait for what happens next. 😏

Hey all,
I know this is the dreaded post and I have not seen any other forum thread on this but my 2024 mustang GT with active exhaust officially has the typewriter tick. Of course, this is known to not cause any harm or anything like that, but is quite annoying. It began after my thousand mile oil change with 5W – 30. Thought it was my h pipe with an exhaust leak at first.
This is my first Mustang GT so I want to make sure I ask before I do anything just in case the Internet is leading me a stray. I have been notified by my dealer, the same old, “it’s just how the coyote is we can’t do anything. “
Other forums and YouTube videos state to use Liqui Moly Ceratac.
My question is whether or not this is truly an option to get rid of the tick and if it is safe. It has 18,000 views on Amazon so I’m sure it is just want to get peoples input. Most of the reviews have to do with coyotes with tick that go away after using it. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Hey there! If you're still experiencing this concern, send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, and I can look into this!

Regardless of the "ticking" issue, I'm pleasantly surprised that you youngin's know what a typewriter is. 😉

Just wanted to know what can a DMed VIN # and dealer info on the ticking noise do or solve ..?? I know that kind of information can give you the vehicle owners full name ..etc ..just curious 🧐
Absolutely nothing. Ford actually acknowledges the tick but swears it is normal and will not cause any issues. Personally I would consider it a waste of time.

Ceratec doesn’t do too well with the motorcraft blended oils..seems to fade back to ticking after about 1,500 miles works best with full synthetics ..like Amsoil or PUP
Honestly this is a new one. I guess it’s possible but there are many blend users on M6G that have been totally satisfied with using Ceratec.

I have seen this topic on several threads and it keeps making me think about valves. Hydraulic lifters have solved many of the issues with valves but even my 4.6L mustang has a little valve rattle in it.
Years ago my dad rebuilt and engine without hydraulic lifters and set all the valves up correctly. After driving it for a while, he had a burnt valve. After repairing the valve, he adjusted them all according to the book then backed the adjustment off about a quarter turn. The engine rattle a lot at an idle but never burnt another valve and ran well. If you can hear them, you're not going to have a problem with them.
An additional item for valves is thicker oil will flow out of hydraulic slower and take up some of the valve slack reducing or eliminating the sound. It isn't an indication of a problem, it's just how thing work in an engine.
I leave it to somebody who is a little more familiar with what it sounds like to judge if it is valves, but if it is, I wouldn't worry about it.

Ford has a TSB on "Tick Tap And/Or Typewriter Noise At Idle" for the 2011-2023 F-150 and for the 2011-2023 Mustang. They claim it's the operating characteristics of the 5.0. My question is if it's normal, why do only some of the 5.0's make the noise?

All 5.0‘s make the noise. Some are barely imperceptible, and some are ridiculously loud. There appears to be no rhyme or reason why. Also explains the “oil change” theory. The noise doesn’t just appear or disappear. It’s not magic.

Does that imply the ones that don’t are abnormal?

My 2022 GT Premium is absurdly loud. Sittin in a drive-thru is embarrassing to say the least. Taking off from a dead stop is very noticeable too. I haven't added anything to it nor will I, the only feasible fix I have came up with is to just make the exhaust louder. Haha
