Ford would have to invest a decent amount into the mustang platform to make it into a performance hybrid. But let's not forget what's incredibly cost inefficient is having a stand alone platform with limited sales numbers.

That's driving up the cost of the car because the process of building it is inefficient and more expensive. Sharing the platform with a sedan will drastically increase sales volume and help make the efficiencies of economies of scale work in your favor. Thereby reducing the cost of manufacturing the car and related components quite drastically.

So it's gonna be a trade off. Platform sharing will help make the car a lot cheaper in theory. But offering a performance hybrid will drive the price up. It's my hope that the two kinda balance each other out.

As the Mustang moves on, it's going to put itself out of business. The car now is so complex and overpriced that most gearheads want nothing to do with the car. Most car lovers will buy an older vehicle and use aftermarket parts for high horsepower. This will irritate the I-Pad jockeys.

They may build a 4-door version, but the mustang will never be built on a 100% shared sedan platform. That is blasphemy that would kill the brand. Ford knows this and Farley is clearly interested in going the opposite direction.

I think you have that backwards friend. The next gen mustang coupe isn't gonna be built on a sedan platform. The mustang sedan is gonna be built on a stretched version of the coupe's platform. But it's still platform sharing.
