I literally used the term EU regulations in my explanation, if you can't work out that regs is short for regulations there is no hope! Seems it is a common abbreviation in the US.

In the US (and internationally), "regs" is the informal, colloquial shorthand for regulations
There is no hope he said, lol.
Well, you couldn't make yourself clear but other people did. So it's not my fault I couldn't understand what you were saying after I commented to maybe explain it in simple English. Other people are just better in explaining it.

English is my 3rd language and I don't live in the US. I only use English here on this forum and nowhere else.

Let's see how good you perform in another language to see if there is more hope for you.

Erm no - you said you didn't understand the original post so I explained it clearly.

What is clearly for you is notalways clearly for someone else. That's why I said I still didn't understand you.

Then somebody else came and made it clear for me. And now you are mad that somebody else could made it clear, while you couldn't. Just stop this childish behaviour.

I'm not mad at anybody especially as that second person said exactly the same thing as me!

Maybe you should put 'English is my third language' in your signature to make it clear that you may struggle to understand?

This guy still wants to discuss the fact that English is not my first language. Are you this insecure that you feel the need to win an English battle between somebody who doesn't speak English very well?

You couldn't make yourself clear, fine. Another person could. Perfect. Now you are butthurt because I didn't understand you but understood another person.

Maybe if your English was good enough, you would have found a way to explain it. You said you couldn't. So that's your incapabilty while others could. Maybe your English is also as bad as mine.

😂😂😂😂

Well, English is my first language, but I can't understand most UK accents, especially Northern and Scottish.
It's the Tower of Babel all over again.

I don't understand the first sentence. What does EU regs mean?

For me now the mileage tax is better since I'm retired.
I was referring to required structural enhancements and crash mitigation tech from the General Safety Regulations that are contributing to increased vehicle weight. Taxes based on vehicle weight would be going up as cars get heavier... you are safer but poorer.

I think mooted still applies - a long way to go before it happens, if it happens.
Only 9 months away, but at least 1 PM probably a chancellor and 1 budget away.
Seems i was wrong, it's now starting April '28 not 27. Plenty of time to be cancelled.

We pay duty & tax on fuel (guess US pays some tax at least on fuel, heck you pay for fuel post vehicle purchase) and an additional duty / license per year to have a vehicle on the road.

The idea of pay per mile is switch some of those taxes into a usage based tax. Mostly the annual vehicle excise duty (road use tax) and will be dependant on fuel type. EV's pay more than Hybrids.

A fixed rate per mile i'm ok with if the average driver ends up paying the same. Issue comes when they want to vary the charge by the time of day and location. Most people are on the roads at peaks tines because they have to get somewhere at that time and not for the fun of it.

But hey it might make it cheaper to use the mustang on windy roads at the weekend if they reduce fuel duty. Would be lovely to get petrol back down below £1/L (quart)
