Apparently, dark horse does not have forged pistons and rods the same as a GT engine. 😢
Easiest way to add those is to switch my short block out to an Aluminator short block when it blows with FI. Oh well.
The gift package you get after buying a darkhorse explains everything they did to it different. Gt4 crankshaft , gt500 forged connecting rods, reinforced special camshafts

I didn't realize I had wandered into another DH haters meeting.

I don't know about everyone else, but I feel like the Ecoboost owners always get a free pass here.

Maybe we could include them this time If I said that the GT is just an overpriced Eco with a different engine and various other minor differences; or can we just f'ing drop it? Cause it's really starting to get old.

The funny thing is the thread was about whether the DH has forged pistons. Ive personally heard a lot of conflicting information about the DH internals so I thought it might be an interesting topic. But it seems one fairly innocuous comment in post 3 sent the train off the tracks in short order, and somewhere along the line the OP got banned for who knows why. This is why we cant have nice things. 😕

Never heard of it having forged pistons.
Rods, yes; and as far as I know, all gen 4 coyotes have a forged crank. Maybe past gens did as well, idk. 🤷‍♂️

this is what is says for the 2025 engines. Forged connecting rods. Thats it. DH is the far right one. Again, engine wise that is the only difference. And tuning wise, the calibrations are almost identical except for a few house keeping differences and the less torque management in the DH calibration. It doesnt have upgraded cams or better cams, the engine is the same. SAME SAME. The less tq management in the tune is what is allowing the engine to make that extra 14hp. The real only meaningful upgrade I can see is if you get a manual DH, then you get the tremec.

While useful for comparison, this chart was never intended to be a total and complete listing of all differences between the three engines listed, the way you are using it in this thread.

Well, Ray Charles could see that would be apples to oranges. 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder is a big difference. 8 cylinder to $20,000 more money 8 cylinder with fifteen more horses and horsey emblems on the fenders isn't a big difference.

These two comparisons are not the same. Let's not get carried away.

What if they took the EcoBoost, put horsey emblems on the fenders, and charged $80k for it... would it then become the trim that everybody and their mother has to get? I'm honestly curious.

Apparently you missed the part where I said "with a different engine".

No, because then it would be a Dark Horse EB; and we all know how everyone feels about DH!

The 4 valve 4.6 and 5.0's always got a forged crank in the Mustangs (except for the 2003/04 Mach 1 automatic transmission cars)

He was making a joke. Not suggesting a literal comparison lol.

It’s a whole book explains what and why they did to engine , trans, diff , exhaust , suspension, aero dynamics. Explains the reasoning behind the design of dark horse. Pretty cool actually
Agreed! That book is very cool
