I decided last week to order a new BMW M3, and so I started researching what kind of prices I could expect on trade for my Mustang Dark Horse. Dealers were low 50s, those greedy little buggers (granted, there are unsold new ones on the lot, so who can blame them?) but Carvana came through with $57,200. My 2025 had a mere 3200 miles on it, but many of those were on the track so the tires were a bit toasted, the brakes quite well worn, I drilled a hole in the front for my fancy tow hook (now up for sale in the classifieds section) and it was very dirty (I did a track day the day before they picked it up). You may think $57,200 isn't great, but this was a base car, no options, and I paid but $58K for it used (w/400 miles) so I think I did OK.
Carvana also bought my S550 GT - I made profit on that one thanks to Covid, and also bought my ugly yellow GT convertible in the middle of winter for thousands more than the dealer would give me. Because manual transmission. And yellow.
It's tough selling expensive 1 year-old cars to individuals, what with financing and whatnot where dealers have a real advantage. Not to mention the hassle and risks as a seller.
I had to hook up my Forscan to undo the collision disable, and today Windows decided that it was too much of a risk! So I had to go disable all of that security crap to get it working. I was sweating a bit, as they wouldn't have accepted the car if it had warnings and failures on the dash. Fortunately I got it done in time, cleaned all of my crap out of the car, and it was a painless, easy transaction. For a mere $40 they'll come pick it up, and that was well worth it since their store is 45 minutes from me and the last time I did, they farted around for a couple of hours and just annoyed the crap out of me. And I had to Uber home, and I hate Uber. And Lyft.
So, hey guys and gals, thanks for the fish! Check out the classifieds if you want to buy my DH car cover, spare tire or the tow hook. I shall remain here as an occasional lurker/commenter if that's OK.
