Lets also not forget that the 5th Gen Mustang got its ass thoroughly kicked by the 5th gen Camaro when it was reintroduced in 09.
2010 4.6 Mustang GT, sure. But, 1st gen Coyote, 2011 Mustang GT vs 2010 Camaro SS...the Mustang didn't get it's ass kicked. They were very close. Camaro was over 200lbs heavier.

https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-ca...-chevrolet-camaro-ss-vs-2011-ford-mustang-gt/

It wasnt until the 2nd gen coyote when the playing field was level again.
2nd gen Coyote was only made 2015-2017, and the 6th gen Camaro in 16/17 was the better car. Camaro lost weight, Mustang gained weight, Camaro gained more power.

Mustang got spanked at the drag strip those two years:

¼-Mile @ MPH12.3 sec @ 11613.0 sec @ 112

It wasn't until the 3rd generation Coyote and 10R80 showed up in 2018 that things would level back out.

Camaro, chassis is already approved, body style still TBD, Power train, similar to Corvette, offer 350 CI gas, and all wheel drive electric like the E-Ray. Date I here is release 2029, and will be a 2030. As far as competition to Ford Mustang, maybe not as much as you think, and your competition will be from Buick and Caddy.....
100% and in the trade that would be called brand cannibalization. Is GM THAT stupid? Like I said I saw a flock of flying pigs.

GM is known for taking a very popular nameplate and making the model a dud, like the GTO, nothing but a rebaked Holden, comeback of the a chevelle SS like sedan in the 90's, again nothing but a black Holden, failed, several attempts with Firebirds, failed, the SSR that was suppose to be a version of a modern El Camino, failed. and so on, all because the nameplates failed to live up to the originals and fell far short. Even the Impala 94-96 was a success but in 97 changed them to a FWD smaller 4 door sedan, with much smaller engine, yet sported the new Impala logo and painted black with grey interior...all FAILED. Now a 4 door Camaro, yeah right that will work. GM gone woke.

Hey you have some people on here that want that for Ford and the Mustang. 😂

It’s brand cannibalization but they call it “keeping the product/nameplate around.”

1. This should motivate Moparts to put the six-speed in the Charger...but it won't :(

2. As much as I'd love to heckle it for being a four-door, at least it's a RWD V8 with a stick. True enthusiast offerings are so scarce these days that you have to put everyone under one tent. Too few cars for warring factions. Our lot is a sea of mediocrity; just fridges. Our "kewl car club" is just a handful and all different; my car, an STI that just got traded for an M2 stick, a Fiesta ST, a 370Z, an MX-5...I think that's it. Somebody has an Evo MR tucked away in a garage; someone else has a heavily modded C5 same. Yup. The rest is a sea of Jettas; three Camrys in a row, his and her Priuses...ugh.

Buick officially retired the nameplate Riveria.
Not heard that. In fact, I know they put out several Riviera concepts over the years and they recently re-trademarked the name...something they might not do if they had officially retired it. They did stop making it though, which is what you might be thinking.

I've never even heard of a company retiring a name, if "retiring" is supposed to mean a pledge to never use it again. Ford retired the Maverick name in 1977, then decided to bring it back a few years ago.

Retiring simply means no car with that specific nameplate will be produced in the immediate future and that model is retired after that model year. The nameplate of the car remains the property of that Division unless the owner (GM) does not renew its patton copywrite. Since it is still the property of that company, nobody else can use that name without legal permission granted by the owner, even though the car is not being produced. If Copywrite not renew anybody else can use that name. GM just renewed the Camaro name last year, meaning it will be used again in the future. So here is a good example of a company wanting to use a name and likeness of that car. AMT wants to make a model of the 1968 Buick Gran Sport, AMT must get legal permission from GM to use the likeness and the name if they wish to manufacture the model car. Even though the 1968 Buick Gran Sport has not been in production since 1968, AMT cannot just use the name and likeness with GM permission. Retirement simply means that specific model is not being produced, and if it does return it can come back in a different configuration because the COMPANY owns the rights to that name.

The last gen Camaro is still in production the same chassis/floor pan is currently being used on 2 Caddy models

If the new one is a 4 door I'll puke.

2 door or nothing

The problem GM has with the Camaro is a nicely optioned/engined car is going to be pretty damn close to the entry level and lower trim level Vettes

In the previous generations the optional engines were very much the same and the Vette guys were bitching because the Camaro got catch cans and they didn't.

There is no way they are putting the C8 engine into a Camaro, front vs mid/rear engined is a huge obstacle to overcome and GM's HALO car is the Vette not the Camaro

Now we get to the elephant in the room.

GM's engines are almost as bad as Fords (except the Coyote that engine is great!) especially the V8's, and the Displacement On Demand system s*cks donkey balls, plus lifters and cams are failing way more than they should, then there is the litany of other engine issues. The transmission will probably be the co-developed 10 speed we have in out cars and their reliability is a whole other topic.

It will be interesting to see how much money GM is willing to lose on this one.

With Reuss supporting at the top & his passion for high-performance variants, you knew the Camaro wouldn't be out of market long. Good to see the competition that is upon us!

super charged camero 4 door? I dont like the looks of the caddy blackwing…so it can be a bit more sports car like the charger that’d be sweet. Looks wise the new charger is sweet, just needs a V8.

That turbo six kicks the 6.4 hemi's ass...

they need to put it in the old version of the car that was way lighter

You can have all the turbos. I’ll be shopping the V8s. I like the 3.5L turbo in my F150 Raptor, however the 3.0L turbo in the bronco is not great. There is an FP tune for it that adds more boost at warranty cost and makes it drive similar to the F150 (I’ve heard). Kinda surprised how much of a difference 0.5L bore size makes between the two vehicles. Love the 5LV8 in my dark horse. Time will tell it I keep it or not long term, i tend to get bored and trade ever 2 years or so

I know some people love to row their own, but the automatics of today are a heck of a lot better than the automatics of previous years. I would take a modern auto with paddle shifters over a manual anyday, but I would take a DCT over either. I would rather keep my hands on the wheel while selecting the correct gear than have to shift my hand off the wheel to move a lever...

Yeah they're faster but I'd rather have a manual to do tricks with and for the most control. To me all you can do with an automatic that's fun is speed. I rented a 911 with the PDK and in sport plus mode it was kind of fun and you could downshift and pop the factory catback exhaust but still.
