How much would you be willing to lose to buy a DH?

Just a GT, not even Premium and no PP.

I've never driven a DH, just played with the shifter in one; no dealer near me has one available.

What would be the biggest differences in your mind? Performance in curves? Body lean? Power?

I would have to be paid to exchange my GT for a DH. I got exactly what I wanted. To each their own even if they are wrong...... It will be OK in the end.....

Some people have a letigimate need for a DH.....as a getaway car, tracking, etc. With the faster A10 of course. But it's all good.....some people like slow cars......

I just got out of my GT from a 75 mile twistie run and it's more fun than should be legal......if fact it wasn't.

Then they always ask “is it a stick?”
I proudly say , “yep only way to have it”
They nod and smile.

When I'm asked if my car has this, that or the other, I just agree but tell them it's faster because it's faster. I may look at a new M2 this weekend because they do look more prim and proper. If they're fast enough, I may just do it. I HATE turbos though. They're broken.....whether it's happened or not is the only question. Just sell it before the warranty (or lease) is up seems to be what bimmer drivers do. Leasing a car is insane BTW. So is making car payments. One payment is what makes sense. I have owned an M and it was fast and handled great. Just not something that I want to drive as much. The only way to own the car that's right for you is to just buy one, or all of them. I'm selling some heavy equipment this Spring so I will have some "mad money".

Oh man. All this pro DH talk in other threads and you haven't even driven one...

You have yourself convinced the standard DH suspension is massively upgraded from a GT PP and it's not. Do yourself a favor and drive both. Please. Unless you get the DH Handling Package (which has stiffer springs, sway bars, and camber plates), I doubt you will notice much if any difference on the street from a GT PP as long as the GT has magnaride.

Yes, the Tremec has a great shifting feel. It s a little more mechanical feeling and it can take way more abuse on the track. I TOTALLY get the appeal. But you really need to drive both. When I traded my Mach 1 Tremec, I drove a GT manual (Getrag) and it honestly it wasn't bad at all. Certainly not as bad as the internet tells everyone. So do I prefer the Tremec? Yes. Would I be OK with the current Getrag? Yes. For what its worth my Tremec was very gritty when cold and bit when going into 5th. They are great but not flawless.

The power difference of a DH is whopping 14 more HP. You won't feel that off the track. The crank and rods are forged, which is great fror forced induction and abuse on the track. Thats basically it.

The specialness of the Dark Horse is all the cooling bits. Bigger radiator, Oil cooler, trans, and rear diff coolers. Again, all for track use. None of which you will feel or be aware of when driving. The GT with Performance pack gets you upgraded brembos, bigger radiator, auxiliary oil cooler, aux auxiliary transmission cooler (not sure if the trans cooler is only for the A10 or not).

Also, the base GT interiors aren't great. The premium will be more comparible to the DH interior.

You really need to drive both a GT PP and a DH and report back.

I have owned some of each. I am super (SUPER) thankful for each one. I have been put in a position to be able to get them, but to discount a vehicle because of X-MFG is silly. S650, ZL1, 2SS, S550, Challenger 392 Widebody, C6.

The ZL1 > DH all day every day and 2x on Sunday.

AND OMG my favorite is my 2004 5.7 GTO. Yep a crappy Pontiac. I had over 300 sub 12 second passes on a Daily Driver, almost pulling the front wheel on a 1.5 60' time, with skinny-ish rear tires by today's standards. The doors still thud on close, no interior rattles and everything worked - always!
Getting in the back seat with the slow-ass motors climbing over rocks was funny as hell though (GTO guys will get this).

Also have new front lower control arms waiting for a free Saturday. Yes, interior is still in great shape, but luckily don't have to deal with the slow seat motors as I rarely have more than 1 person with me.

What color and transmission? I put 3.92 in mine and it was a fiasco, but a fun fiasco with the shims

I noticed the same thing. It"s because the gear ratios in the manual GT are very tall. If the Dark Horse with the Tremec is like the Mach 1, it has lower gear ratios.

Also, a Dark Horse will handle quite a bit better than the non performance pack GT you drove.

The gear ratios in the GT PP and DH are the same. And both have Torsen differentials.

The standard GT manuals do come with tall gears (3.15s I think) and do underwhelm off the line.
