Top two cars on my list to order this coming fall for spring 27 delivery are either a C8 2LT (new engine interests me) or a Dark Horse. I already know what to expect to pay for the C8.
Live in Alaska so dealers are limited but then again not many people, if any, rushing around trying to procure a DH.
The Dark Horse I would buy would be pretty loaded with the 700A package, 6 speed, and handling package putting the MSRP in the upper $70K range, maybe even hitting 80 with a few other minor options. In all honestly I wouldn't buy one if I had to pay over MSRP.

Is "X" pricing reasonable to expect? Can I do better? This car will be ordered and not picked up off the lot.
Thanks.

Greetings,
You can get one for $4k to $6K below the base MSRP even with your options depending on the dealer. The dealer will do everything they can to get you to pay base plus options. You have to be willing to walk away. If you can't find a dealer that has what you want on the lot or something incoming with nearly all the features you are looking for, that will make your negotiation more challenging. You'll probably have to come up between $2.5 and $3.5k. If you can find a dealer who has one on the lot and it's been sitting for more than 3 months you can get it for a steal. If you haven't bought a new car for a while, call or visit a dealer outside of your comfortable travel area and test the waters. You should have a primary color and backup color picked out. Usual advice, don't talk about financing, monthly payments or trade in, the focus needs to be the selling price for the car. I also used the price of premium gasoline here in California as one of my negotiating tactics. 🤣 Worked well. The first dealership I visited the sales manager was a prick. The second one was a totally different experience. Friendly. helpful, upfront and respectful.

So, no difficulty with a dealer obtaining an “allocation” or build slot?
Generally speaking Ford will make as many of these as they can sell?
And the more a dealer sells the better for the dealer?

I don’t think X plan is available on dark horse, if you can get anything below MSRP at all it’s a steal.

but if you’re not taking one in stock off the lot, I would be prepared to expect FULL MSRP ordering
Between scheduled downtime and shutdown, if you order today, September would probably be earliest

Another thing with Dark Horses is they're often excluded from any special discounts like private offers (basically a personal rebate Ford mails you), student/military rebates, etc.

That's correct. DH is excluded in the fine print. If you click on the terms. Retail Offers. (Offer details) 🫤

What is the lead time from order to delivery?
IF I decide to go with a Dark Horse I would plan for a March/April 27 delivery.

Given the current market, I would pay no more than MSRP for the following: a custom order tailored to your liking. No dealer mark-up. No dealer add-ons.

If at a dealer and they had something on the lot or arriving soon, I'd expect MSRP to a modest (2%) discount for a DH. This is based on pricing in my local area. GTs are advertised with a starting discount of 5%. Virtually all makes and models in my area are being advertised at a reduced price and no dealer add-ons.

So, no difficulty with a dealer obtaining an “allocation” or build slot?
In general, no. The DH is not a limited production model. If your dealer does not sell many Mustangs, they might have to reach out and ask for one from the Regional Manager.

As discussions progress and the order is about to be placed, it's a great idea for any buyer to confirm with the sales person the allocation has been secured.

Generally speaking Ford will make as many of these as they can sell?
Yes. Ford has a pretty good idea how many people will buy in a given year and plan with their suppliers accordingly. There have been some holds and delays past, but I'm not aware of any limitations this Model Year.

If ordering a DH with the Handling Package, those are not made during the Winter months, due to the tires used and the cold temperatures. If someone ordered at DH/HP in October, they should not expect to see it until April, soonest.

And the more a dealer sells the better for the dealer?
It's something of a mixed bag. At one extreme, a dealer who doesn't sell many will ask the dealer for an allocation. At the other, a dealer with so many Mustangs on order runs out of allocations, the buyers then waiting, orders in-hand. Most dealers fall in-between. Ford's system ensures everyone gets at least something, favoring dealers who sell more of that model.

Good Luck with the order. :please: The car will be worth the wait.

The America 250 promo right now gives employee pricing and does not exclude the Dark Horse (only the SC). It runs through July 6th I believe, so you can purchase for A/Z plan pricing right now, which is below invoice.

Thank you very much for correcting me. 🤦‍♂️ That's what I get for reading the fine print on my phone.

Go to Visor.vin or Carguru or TSPtrecar etc. Don't take anything less than 10-12% off, or even more. Some of these have been sitting more thna a year. Big savings on 25s, then ship to Alaska, might cost you a few Gs but you've saved a ton already

This one is 11K off, MSRP 76K, now 65K https://visor.vin/v/ycc1cy

It may take a while to go find one you like, but it is out there...

This right here. I found mine on visor.vin at $7500 off MSRP optioned how I wanted. My local dealer wanted ADM, but never even mentioned how much. He wants $30k over for a Raptor R though.

I’ve owned a C8 and currently own a DH with handling package. Get the C8 it’s superior in every way!
As long as you're short. I don't fit height-wise in a C8, the roof is VERY LOW. The Mustang has PLENTY of headroom.

In Colorado, good luck finding the DH that you want. It's not going to happen IMO. Here, the air force cadets buy them up as soon as they hit the lots. I was lucky to get a shadow black. Teal color is the only thing that is sitting. With that said, I bought just after taxes and before graduation. So I had a little selection at the time. Paid 1500 below MSRP. Now our lots are empty waiting for delivery.

It is easier to get a Raptor R at the moment than a DH or a nicely equipped GT for that matter.
