What are the two things in the front with hoses leading to them? Intercooler pumps?
Probably, the pre production car is not really refined, which is why there are very few pictures of the car with the hood open.

You think? Dark Horse is pretty great IMHO, both the car and the nameplate. I think its great to do a new nameplate vs just recycling the same. From the video, looks like there will still be some heritage throwbacks but also new nameplates. Just let it sink in…Dark Horse SC. Its a great edition to the stable.
Dark Horse never sank in with me so neither will this one. Nothing wrong with the Dark Horse as a car other than it's overpriced for what you get and trying to compete with cars it has no business competing with. The name on the other hand is a dud compared to their other trims.

I have about 2 to 3 hours street time in the GT500 and my opinion mirrors yours. Unless your driving at 9/10 or 10/10 it’s kind of boring and you can absolutely feel the extra weight on the nose of the car even when cruising…but the acceleration is impressive… but Tesla acceleration is impressive also and i

I could go out and buy a CFTP tomorrow if I wanted one…. but even my 13 year old daughter who was with me for a 30 minute drive told me she thought it accelerates like a roller coaster but is boring compared to my car …
I agree and it's even a compliment if you think about it, a car so good and composed it must be driven to the limit for it not to be boring. I'm not trying to diss the gt500 either by any means...I just find the manuals to be more engaging on the street and don't like waiting a month between track events to enjoy driving the thing again.

TRX used to own a GT350 and GT500.
I think Ford changed up the name last second. Lol

This just seems like a more fitting name for the car. While the Dark horse makes sense due to the racing teams. Calling it a SC referring to it as a Super charged instead of being Super Coupe gives off the impression of it being a supercharged 5.0 Dark Horse. I am still exciting to get one of these when they become available.

The car is bad ass. The only thing I don't like is they ditched the dual filter setup. They made it work with Whipple, just do it here and use both nostrils even with a single throttle body.

Yes its a refresh of a 2021 Shelby GT500 that's not a Shelby. That says less about this car and more about the fact the previous gen was a Ford Performance car and not a true Shelby. This version is better looking by a mile, sorry.

Only real issue with this car is that it's going to cost 100K+. Which is a big ass issue. Other than that its going to be fantastic.

Have you guys ever seen those posts where they compare the same shoe but it’s got different logos on it? (Nike, Jordan, Under Armor, etc.)?

That’s what this feels like because the car looks instantly better to me and all that’s changed is the logo/name 🤣🤣

I guess branding and marketing really is important haha

They are electric air pumps.

The '20-'22 GT500 didn't need them but more stringent emissions requirements led to their use on the GTD engine first. Lower left corner in the following photo of a GTD, they at least got plastic covers over them.

S650 Mustang 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC - Official Specs, Photos, Videos 1000040422

They are used at start up to help the cats light off quickly. The exhaust manifolds, stainless "shorty" tubular headers to many of us, had to be revised as did the cylinder heads. Air is pumped to the manifolds, distributed to each port where it then enters the cylinder head. In essence, the cylinder heads for the GTD and the SC are "emissions heads" whereas the GT500 heads were not. There are other small engine changes, hopefully Ford engineers will get the opportunity to talk about them, such that the GTD/SC 5.2 engine deviates from that of the GT500.

You know it kinda makes sense because during the reveal, the teal color was referenced as a nod to the Boss 429….

they could’ve just called this car Boss and called it a day. I still dig it though.

As shown in the video below Ford has just been a complete sh!tshow especially when it comes to Special Editions for the 7th Generation Mustang! The exterior looks of the 7th Gen car I have no issue with and I can easily see the Fox body cues. For whatever reason the standard car consistently outshines the special editions! The California Special with its Neon Blue Nostrils & rims? I will admit the blue interior is very tastefully done! The 60th Anniversary car is such a disappointment compared to what Ford did with the 50th Anniversary where they hit it out of the park. Silver Nostrils and Matchbox Car Rims? Unlike the generation before where the Bullitt and Mach 1 were standouts and highly more desirable than the standard GT.

The interior is a mess and a massive downgrade from the 6th Gen car that came before it. As listed below it is almost identical to a BMW M2. Gone is the gorgeous metal double brow dash! You have that God-awful screen that looks like somebody placed a damn tablet there. That Screen will not age well and look very tacky a decade from now! Aston Martin, Bently even Corvette is smart enough to put the gauges in the dash even if they are digital. The very unique dash of the Mustang looks just like every other car out there now. To make it worse is that damn plastic FAUX Carbon Fiber which looks so cheap and is the worst part if the interior. Thankfully with the new Dark Horse they actually upgraded the dash to actual carbon fiber so that is a huge upgrade. The side panels on the door I can't tell if they are the same old cheap plastic panels or not.

Now we have the new car which was advertised as Shelby GT500 since the Fall of 2022. I don't exactly know the breakdown of the fallout between the companies! The Shelby Mustang is probably the most iconic Mustang out there and has been since 1965! I have numerous books on Shelby Mustangs specifically. I doubt I will ever see a book dedicated the Dark Horse Mustangs specifically. The Dark Horse has been out for 2 years, and it hasn't been out long enough to prove itself to the masses or prove itself as an iconic brand! If this were a new Shelby GT500 I would be all over it! As it stands as a Dark Horse with the S(uper) C(ringe) moniker I clearly am not.

Then I see the video posted below and with BOSS Logo clearly on the digital readout to prove that was the intent! So they take a vastly unknown brand being Dark Horse and combine it with BOSS which is vastly more iconic dating back to 1969 and the combination makes perfect sense! BOSS is the top tier level of a brand. A BOSS Dark Horse grabs my attention and really sparks my interest! Then I look at the layout of the car and its similarities to the original BOSS 429 and 302 in appearance and specifically IN REGARD TO RACING and you have a match made in heaven! FORD RACING is on the damn sill plate! Yet Ford in their infinite stupidity decided to use the S(uper) C(ringe) label instead? WTF are they thinking! They totally missed a perfect opportunity to appeal to the masses while not alienating buyers. The other variable is will a Dark Horse retain its value like a Boss or Shelby would? Shelbys to this day being 2007 to 2022 basically sell used for what they sold for new. Will a Dark Horse SC be able to do that?

The reality is this. Current Mustang numbers are the lowest in history by a wide margin! In 2023 the Corvette outsold the Mustang! That is saying something as a Corvette is twice as expensive to even get into. A lot of Mustang fans have gravitated to the C8 including me and I used to hate Corvettes. Handling is top notch, the interior is stunning and worlds better than the Mustang using vastly better components, the gauges are digital but in the dash! There is brilliant separation between the screens, and it doesn't look like somebody just opened their IPAD in front of the steering wheel. To top it off Corvette is not ignoring its history! Stingray, Z51, Z06, ZR1, Grand Sport in 2027 while also introducing new models like the E-ray. I can't stand the fact that the current CEO of Ford has this level of stupidity ignoring labels that have made the brand so iconic, yet he also has buried the company with 1.5 Billion of debt due to woke EV BS! At the end of the day another missed opportunity by Ford and I love the brand and Mustangs ever since I was a kid and owned them for over 20 years putting over 300,000 miles on them. I severely hope Ford takes a look at why sales have plummeted and rectify before they release the 8th Gen vehicle.

This car is meant for people who will actually drive the car and not sit in a lawn chair at the local cars and coffee telling people they have this "brand name" car. I swear people care about the dumbest things. It could have the name "Mustang Xy32!" and I still wouldn't care. All that matters is the performance.

I wanted to add a little more context to the changes we see (or will see) on this engine versus the engine when it was in the GT500. Here's an extra set of GT500 exhaust manifolds I have. Very similar to what came on the GT350 as well. Note the flange, you see the exhaust ports along with the holes for the fasteners to pass through them.

S650 Mustang 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC - Official Specs, Photos, Videos 20240427_152354a

Now look at the manifold for the GTD which will mirror that of the Dark Horse SC. A much bigger flange with additional holes which allow for the air injection system to pump air into the cylinder head. Those new holes are directly above each exhaust port.

S650 Mustang 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC - Official Specs, Photos, Videos GTD Manifold 2

The connection to the manifold begins at a small flange at the leading end of the manifold which then further distributes the air as seen below in the upper right hand corner.

S650 Mustang 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC - Official Specs, Photos, Videos GTD Manifold 3

That is just at the manifold. The entire support system of hardware becomes a bit more complex and convoluted. And expensive.

S650 Mustang 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC - Official Specs, Photos, Videos GTD Air Pump hardwar

The above hardware takes up space and adds cost for very little "green" benefit. I was hoping that with numerous changes at the EPA that this system would no longer be necessary but so far that isn't the case. Note that the SC engine has yet to receive an EPA Certificate of Conformity either.

Heh, it’s not Farley pushing the adgenda, it’s us! FORD started the SUV craze with the Bronco and people of all types keep buying into it, trucks too. Mustang enthusiasts are in the minority now.
Ummm Ford started the SUV craze with the Explorer. Its like you were born in the 2000s or something. 🤣
