2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse

Go ahead and watch this. Farley just said “no, we live in the future” in reference to seeing a Cobra or Boss down the line.

What a let down. It makes zero sense to walk away from what made the Mustang so iconic and famous to begin with.
well, he did say
"no, we live in the future"
, but he also said right after that
"we love all those, we love all that, and we have so much history, we may do a few of those, but really, i think if you see how we've built out Mustang, you know, were going in kind of a new refresh direction, which is very much looking forward to a different standard."
and he also mentions other regional performance brands like Australia's FPV line, and other performance Ford brands that never really got the love like the Boss, Cobra, and so on did

The company is doing their best… R&D is caught on its back foot…. They were ALL IN EV future.

this is gonna take years if not a decade to unwind.
While I agree with your statement, if a company like Ram/Dodge can do it at a time like this (aka broke AF)...Ford with all their money should be able to get it sorted pretty quick.

They've got a goldmine of a parts-bin to rustle through, too. Engines galore, nostalgic names, influencers, marketing, etc.

EDIT: Just to add...it would help if they didn't surround themselves with a bunch of boot-lickin' "yes-men", either...

Im going to steal someone elses thoughts from the S550 forums......this is the problem......so even looking past the name....

First there was the supercharged GT500 that launched in 07
Then in 13 and 14 they went to the Trinity supercharged 5.8
Then in 15 they launched the VooDoo
Then in 20 they launched the Predator

We have been accustomed to BIG changes when new "hero" model Mustangs are launched

This is reusing a 6 year old motor (I am sure with a few small tweaks) but not the BIG step forward that we have all become accustomed to.....

Whether it was NA or Supercharged- I think we wanted something that made it more different/ unique/ special ....a real step forward but instead we got S550 GT500 2.0 with a different name....

Jeez, all this fuss over the name Dark Horse. I'm a Mustang newbie, I like it. I just didn't want to wait 6 months for one.
You'd think Ford called it the Ginger Ass.
The fact is, the name is recognised. A random Aussie asked me if mine was a Dark Horse. He knew what it a DH was, just didn't recognise it because Grabber Blue is such a magnificent colour.
As for price, do people think DCT's, carbon wheels and all the other goodies grow on trees?
I can't believe what I paid for the GT, when the same money gets you a boring Skoda or some mind numbing SUV down here.
Like you, I don't live in the USA either...but in Canada, it's the opposite. For example, the last few years when the Camaro ZL1 was still on sale, it was CHEAPER than the Mach 1 and upcoming (back then) Dark Horse. Had I been in the market for a car then, the ZL1 was a no-brainer. Hell, the first few years of the C8 was cheaper than both the M1+DH, too.

Do you remember when Chevy announced the ZL1 back then?

"580hp! Suck it Ford!"

Then Ford announced the 668hp, 200mph capable, 5.8 Trinity nearly right after the Chevy boys were going crazy with their announcement. Just left a mushroom shaped stamp on their forehead, Hahaha. Man, that era of muscle car wars was just...brings a tear to my eye. Peak.

On another note...they are in kind of a weird spot with the potential power of this DH SC right?

The car can clearly make 815hp...which wouldn't look good against the GTD.
The car SHOULDN'T make the same 760 as the GT500 because...well that's quite obvious.
If it doesn't make "at least" 810hp, it makes less than the warranty-approved Ford Racing Whipple supercharger kit.
So what...make it have 811-814hp? Like wtf?

It's not a great problem to have, honestly. Not only that, but with the new Ram TRX packing 777hp, the Raptor R needs to make at least that amount of HP for the measuring contest of pickup trucks...and there's no way a pickup truck, packing the same engine, should make MORE power than the street performance car. It's a weird...shot yourself in the foot moment, IMHO.

Not to mention, guys who want a manual car, are just going to pick up a DH HP w/Tremec...strap a Whipple on it, maintain warranty and save about $30-50k from buying the DH SC. Sure they won't be as track capable out of the box, but yeah...

At least the consumer has a lot of options. If you're a die-hard Ford guy/gal, you'd have to admit, they do have a lot of bases covered in that regard.

Even though im not the buyer for the DH SC…I’m grateful that Ford is still making cars like these… when no other companies are building a full blown lineup of muscle cars that you can also buy hypercar versions of. Pretty impressive, all things considered in today’s ultra conservative/boring car market chock full of crossovers, SUVs and EVs.

Long live the V8. And kudos to Ford.

something i just noticed, Ford has likely dropped the redline of the Dark Horse SC compared to the GTD by about 150-250 RPM to either 7500 or 7400, likely to make sure the DH SC doesn't get to the level of the GTD. you can tell they lowered the redline because of this bit of a picture taken by car and driver
S650 Mustang 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC - Official Specs, Photos, Videos 1768549208206-j6

the tachometer ends at 8, where the GT, DH, and GTD tachometer goes to 9. BUT, they also did something similar for the 2020-22 GT500, where the redline was 7500 but the tachometer only went to 8000. so i guess we will see eventually, but i gotta admit i'm not a fan of this artificial limiting, like i'm not a fan of the redline lie of the GT and DH manuals

Someone seems to be getting a little triggered. 🤣
Triggered? Heh, talk about hypocrisy. I don't hide behind profile blockers like someone else does. 🙄

well, he did say

I said it here first, FORD can have no future if they are stuck in the past. A visit from the past now and then would be nice but it just wouldn't work with the new direction they are taking the nameplate. Dark Horse is here to stay just like I am and always have. For those that complain or flee so be it. You just don't get it and won't be missed.

I don't think so. Has everyone forgotten about the FP800S already? Factor that into the equation and you might just blow your mind.

I don't see this coming down to an HP war among the trim lines. There are so many other parameters that distinguish between the GT-500 and the DH SC and the GTD not to mention all the other ~800HP class derivatives. And frankly it is quite silly to be hung up on that number alone anyway as a barometer of performance. Porche 911 GT3 RS anyone?

Ford has not released pricing yet. if history is anything to go by, price lists and order guides are likely to come out about a week before order banks open

I don't think Farleys statement is bad. I think it comes down to a few points he just misses out or didn't want to make on the spot:
  • Reviving old names generates tons of unnessecary hate online in their own fanbase. "This so not a real [Add random hostorical model name here], a real one would have [this] and [that]" - We've all seen tons of that every single time. I totally get that can just dodge that completely with new names. And to be fair the trademarked Dark Horse Boss sounds really cheesy compared to DHSC.
  • Afaik the S550 Bullitt went quite well, but the S550 Mach 1 fell flat. It was a great car, tons of great looking unique design elements, but sadly it proofed to Ford that some classic names don't mean people will actually buy them. Dark Horse is bascially the exact same car, yet it generated to much more hype and attention that this car exists.
  • Dark Horse SC will work much better as a Halo car to crosssell the regular Dark Horse than going for something entirely differently, specially with both cars sharing similiar design cues.

The only reason I may be interested to this, is if it'll ever come to Europe (here you can't have either of the other specs, neither from the previous gen), so I can finally have a SC Mustang coming from the factory with all the related warranty (we're not in the US... here having the official warranty with the official dealers/shops is a must).
But I know that this isn't going to happen (due to the EU regulations... same has happened with the 350 and 500), so I will switch to Porsche. :bandit:
