I wonder what the worse offense dealers impose on new car buyers? I can't think of anything but those secondary price stickers offering VIN etched windows (that fact makes them easier to break), plastic door guards (which always crack and fall off), window protection films (their ills are described above), and worst of all, chintzy-dealer markups blown all out of proportion.

I can't speak for others, but when I see these added extras, I always point them out to the nearest salesperson telling them this is the reason I won't buy a new car from them. Interestingly enough, I (you?) always get a dumb ass look in return!
I once bought a car with one of those bullshit secondary stickers on it and I told the salesman, "you see that sticker next to the OEM sticker"? He said yes, I told him, "if we are to move forward, that sticker isn't there in our dealings, get it?". He said, yes, we proceeded, and I bought the car. I will absolutely not pay for that cheesy bullshit stuff they add on and price it ridiculously.

There's a thin line, that's where the bra is.

I see it. Just didn't know what part of the car I was looking at. I'd definitely look at your paperwork and make sure your weren't charged for that. Those PPF kits aren't cheap. If it's really a freebie, then count yourself very lucky.

Anyway, glad to see it the windshield is all taken car of now. 😎

Yes, I am 100% sure this option was free. All the "packages" and add-ons were taken off the price.

Looking at the picture, I can completely understand the confusion.

I had severe water spotting after my dealer clay barred the windscreen and left contaminated water on the car and parked it in the sun.
So the Duraseal dealer that supplied the ceramic coating came out with their waterspot remover and it worked like magic. He said you can use it on glass but you have to reduce the soaking time.
Not sure if it's sold in the US.

Hmm, never thought about ceramic coating the windshield before. I'm going to look into it.

No, sorry, didn't mean that. They wouldn't do it on a new car. But I believe it is possible.

Turns out it is possible. Pretty technical though.

Did you buy the car off the lot? If you did maybe the deal fell through for another customer and the PPF was installed for them.

Yes, off the lot. I suppose that is possible.

Ceramic coating glass is a waste of time in my opinion, especially the front windshield as the wiper blades abrade to coating in short order. Yes, you get some insane water behavior that reduces the need for wipers, but you can get the same thing by using something like Glass Clean & Protect or Gyeon Quick View, both easier to apply and do job for much less money.

You can absolutely ceramic coat a windshield. I had mine done with the rest of my last car. No more water spots or streaking.
