I hate this hood…. more aggressive aftermarket options?

UNLESS I can find more information on a gt500 style hood for the s650. Which looks like a vented cowl? How effective is this?

Does anyone have any numbers validating one or the other. Cowl vs vent vs vented cowl? Or is it kinda like the “hp gain” we are getting from removing the carbon traps on the s650, theoretical and not measurable?

to answer your question, its 100% a "you gain 2HP by removing the carbon traps". does the hood effect the airflow and heat dissipation of the car, yeah sure. will you EVER actually notice it? no, just get what looks coolest to you

The car was not named after the plane. That is an urban legend.

The very first Mustang prototype was built in 1961. It looked nothing like what would eventually be built as the first generation Mustang in 1964.

That Mustang prototype, later dubbed the Mustang I, was co-designed by John Nijjar. He is credited with naming it the Mustang, inspired after the WWII P51 Mustang fighter plane.

They built two Mustang I cars - one was fully functional and the other was without a powertrain.

That car lent its name to the Mustang II concept car (not to be confused with the mid-70s Mustang II) which was much more like the eventual first generation Mustang built in 1964. That eventual 1st generation Mustang was ordered to be designed based on the Mustang I by none other than Lee Iacocca.

The one and only Mustang II concept car is located at the Detroit Historical Museum in Detroit.

There is some Grey area here. Jim Nijjar was inspired by the plane. Everyone else at Ford preferred the horse, hense all the Horse marketing. The name Cougar was even considered at one point. So the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I have no skin in the game, so I was ready to accept whatever was presented to me. Most everything pointed to the plane as inspiration for the name and spirit of the car.

After all, the plane was named after the horse. Can't debate that. The plane was a culmination, or the best of many different planes. Built by American and English pilots and engineers. Look up the etymology of the word. The horses, just like the plane, were of many different breeds. Manly those from Spain. But that's just a little history. Mustang is the perfect name for the horse breed, the fighter plane, and Fords little car which can beat cars with bigger more powerful engines.

Umm CJ Pony parts is not the authority on the history of the Mustang. All that info is cut and pasted from others places with a healthy dose of speculation sprinkled in.

As stated before, the plane was an inspiration for sure. But the name, branding, and all the marketing was based on the horse. You won't find a single piece of marketing from Ford referring to the plane.

Guess American Quarter Horse would've taken up too much room on the decklid. Any way, the horse I mentioned could outrun most horses in the quarter mile, just like the car. The Mustang and Am. Quarter Horse are the two most popular horses in America. Just as the fighter plane was the most popular. So maybe there's multiple reasons to use such a great name like Mustang. But no way could a car have such a long name like American Quarter Horse. So Mustang fits real nice.
