From what I remember, it's just the one piece (carbon surround with the boot portion). The hardest part was getting the boot over the new know, had to cut and stretch a little.
Thx so I gather after removing the auto trim and boot part the manual boot just snaps in after putting the boot over the shifter, thx again

Yes you completely remove the trim and boot and replace it with the manual cover.

i forgot to share it here, but i got the Billetworkz titanium shift knob and the manual shift boot and installed them, also anodizing the shift knob. here is the final result
S650 Mustang Automatic Shift Knobs 1738224461946-et

and here was my anodizing setup
S650 Mustang Automatic Shift Knobs 1738224554427-7f

power bank going into a USB-C PD board set to 20V, positive on the bolt the shift knob was threaded onto via aluminum wire, negative on the aluminum sheet that goes into a baking soda and distilled water solution. i used a rotary tool with an abrasive buffing end to remove the shift knob's protective coating first, because otherwise it was just turning an ugly yellow-green

For an Automatic Shift Knob replacement, I think a Black Horse Head with Red Eyes would look cool.
Probably can 3D print one out of the right material.
On a manual though, having to shift often, that wouldn't be easy on the hands.

So, I am lil confused on what to order from billetworkz. There are 3 options a $99, a $159, and a $279. Unless I am over looking it, there is no real explanation of the difference. I am assuming the $99 one doesn't have a shift knob. But is that all I need to order other than a knob? What makes the $279 option a $120 more.

Not knowing what your looking at to buy but if your just looking at the knob itself that is probably the lower costs. the higher cost includes the shifter and the knob to change out the factory shifter. The knob itself cannot go on the factory shifter.

$120 more than this one?

And is this one basically an adaptor to put a after market knob on?

American Muscle had a white shifter for automatic. I believe it was about 69.95. I believe they also had black or red too. The shifter looked made it look like a 6-speed .

maybe the Alcantara leather is the reason. I would contact them they are pretty good at getting back to you. I have the titanium knob that was quite expensive too for a knob but it looks great especially when you change out the trim around the shifter itself to a manual trim without the auto letters

The Fusion knob is more expensive because it’s wrapped in leather or alcantra and is weighted. be aware that the shape of it is not just a sphere…it has more of a bottom taper to it. This makes it sit what looks like a good 1” higher than a simple screw on sphere. The shape of it also makes the lock-out collar a little more awkward to push down.

If you own an automatic, not matter what knob you choose, be sure to click on the box that adds the $80 adapter for automatics! Be sure to go through the knob options carefully and thoroughly! Weighted knobs have silver logos, non-weighted knobs have white logos.

I wanted that Fusion knob, but it just sits too high up installed. Instead I just now ordered the weighted matte black knob with silver GT engraved.

For those critical of only “posers” getting these knobs for their automatics, I have another reason. With the stock shifter, it’s too easy to still have your thumb on top and accidentally shift down into M. Just yesterday I accidentally shifted all the way back into M and as I pulled out I was horrified to see the car winding out to near 7000 RPM still stuck in first gear….and I’m still breaking it in! I was so $#@! Mad at myself for being stupid, and at Ford for making it so easy to accidentally shift into Manual mode and not realize it.

So I got the Billetworkz shifter mostly for the collar lock-out mechanism than anything else, hoping it will help me from dumb-thumbing the stick all the way back.

I "fixed" my Fusion knob... I too didn't like how tall it was... dropped it nearly an inch.

I also find myself resting a hand on the shifter sometimes (muscle memory from driving a manual?).

Nice work on modifying the knob!

BTW: a thought lining up a knob with graphics….I got a knob with the GT logo on it. I saw an install video where to line up the logo to be level, the instruction was to just gob a bunch of blue Locktite on the threads and let the knob sit on it until it sets.

I thought maybe a better solution is to shim the top of the threads with washers until the knob screws down tight and the logo sits level. Then maybe just a small dab of Locktite is needed, or not at all.

I’ll admit, I bought 3 knobs because I couldn’t decide, and might just switch them out from time to time.

Anyway….I don’t have the shifter set yet, just ordered today. So what are anyone’s thoughts on just shimming the top of the shifter post with washers to get the knob logo level?

If you got the Billetworkz knob, you can rotate the whole thing before setting the setscews, which helps to line up logo (or putting the stitching forward to match the boot in my case).
